those with girls - haircut?

When did you get/plan to get LO's haircut?

O hair is really starting to get long.  If you saw the videos on FB you can see how long it is in the front.  The back is starting to creep over her shirt.   We normally just kind of sweep the front over to the side and tuck the back in so it doesn't look like a mullet.

Re: those with girls - haircut?

  • we had Preslee's hair trimmed just after her first birthday. Not a major cut just trimmed up the back a little and got the front out of her eyes. It made a huge difference! Luckily my hairdresser lives close by and just did it at our house. We had to feed her cheerios the entire time to get her to sit still!

  • I'm interested in hearing the answer to this too, Leah's hair is constantly in her eyes these days so I know we probably need to do something, poor kid.

  • I've always kind of figured that in order to let it grow out, it would have to go through an awkward stage like that.  Will she let you put a clip in it to hold the front off to the side?

I think you could cut it whenever but then you're committing yourself to cutting it everytime it gets to that length.  JMO.

And one of the kids at Annie's daycare wears a ponytail sticking straight up in the front. It looks a little silly, but it keeps the hair out of her eyes while she plays, and I think it's just temporary until it grows a little more.

  • We haven't yet, and I'm not sure when we will.

The front is definitely long and in her eyes if we don't pull it back. I really want it to get to the point where we can tuck it behind her ears and it'll stay.

But - the longer it gets, the curlier it gets - so I'm not sure what we're going to do with it!

  • Right after Isabella's first birthday I had my aunt trim a little from the back and sides.  It looked like a scraggly mullet.  I want to grow her bangs out so I have to pull them back with a clip or a ridiculous looking pony to keep them out of her eyes.  Her hair is starting to look a little scraggly again so it may be time for another trim.

  • Stella's hair is still short, but she is definitely working on a mullet :)

I have thought about this too, just trying to get her bangs long enough that they end up  being able to be tucked back. I can easily put a bow/clip/barrette in her hair but it ultimately falls out during the day when she is playing.

She will not let me even try to put a small pony tail holder in her hair, she acts like I'm trying to decapitate her! Anybody have a trick to that one??

This is bad, but I sit down with her on my lap and turn on Mickey or Elmo or something.  It usually distracts her long enough for me to get her hair pulled back.  I also let her play with the comb/brush and the bag of hair ties.

I do it while she's eating breakfast. She's so hungry, she'll let me do it while she eats. The bad part is that it always looks awful after her nap and she won't let me fix it. Use the tiny little rubber bands - they stay put better than the fabric ones.

  • Ella's hair is so long and luxurious that we have to cut it practically every single day. It's exhausting, frankly. It's been this way since she was three days old. First haircut was in the hospital.

LOL!  From the recent pictures though she is for sure getting some more hair.

See she is just trying to make it easy on Mommy, less hair means all you have to do is wash and go :)

ITA - it's less work! She hates bath time enough as it is; not sure what I'd do if I had long hair to contend with.

It's definitely filling in! Here's the best shot I can find showing its growth:

  • I think I'm going to have my hairdresser trim Josie's in the back--she's definitely getting a mullet too.  She's got one piece thats like 5 inches long!

  • I cut a couple little chunks of Lexi's hair (bangs) at 6 months. It looked really scraggly and was going into her eyes. Now that the bangs are about the same length, I use a clip to pull the hair to the side. I pulled it into a pony tail on top of her head the other day (sat her in my lap while she watched tv) and that worked well too. I suppose we'll cut/trim it again once it doesn't look very heathy...maybe in 6 months or so.

This is us.....I think Evie and Ella are kindred spirits of the follically challenged kind.

  • Emma's is forever long so it's been cut a million and a half times.  She had bangs while she was in her helmet but after that we let it grow out.  We would use a barrette and just do it over and over again.  She was okay with it.  When it would go in a ponytail I would put one on the top of her head.  She was good with that too.  Now that it's long, it has to go back and she hates it.  I still have to do it while eating breakfast or with my legs wrapped around her!

Aaaand my computer just got showered with spit out OJ.  My IT department thanks you.

Luckily Maya's hair isn't growing as fast in the front as it is in the back so she is still just rocking a wicked awesome curly mullet and doesn't have the hair-in-the-eyes problem.  I think I am being overly sensitive about cutting it but I'm just not ready yet.

  • I haven't cut DD's hair yet (she's closing in on 3.5). We went through the awkward stage where it was in her eyes too- I used a lot of barrettes and ponytails. She used to fight me on doing her hair- I found it easiest to distract her with food, do it quickly, and then gush about how cute it was and how she could show it off to whoever we'd be seeing soon. Even now, she still often insists on looking at the finished product in the mirror.
