can you tell me your go to healthy lunch and bfast ideas?

i started a "diet" last week and am using myfitnesspal.com to track calories.  what an awesome website and eye opener.  i need to lose close to 50lbs and am trying to sick to a 1200 calorie a day diet. its been ok so far but im eating the same stuff and thats getting old
can you tell me your go to foods?  i am on the picky side and dont love cooked veggies (though im trying to eat a serving at dinner) or eggs very much.
i am a carb and dairy addict... and need to get to the grocery store to stock up on whole grain carbs and low fat/sugar free dairy products.
ive never paid attention to what i ate so this is a little new to me.... Embarrassed

  • I don't like most cooked veggies either, so I eat them raw. The bonus there is that they are less time consuming to prepare. That being said though, cooked veggies can be tasty, you just have to cook them properly. Never overcook them, they should still have a little crunch. Make your own salad dressing instead of using the stuff in the bottle.

If you are a carb addict, eat fruit. You will still be getting some simple sugars that way, but you will also get fiber and vitamins. Compared to chocolate or candy, the sugar content is really negligable.

As for whole grains, I like steel cut oats, quinoa and brown rice. Cook the quinoa and rice in low sodium broth, it is very tasty.

Weigh your food, don't use measuring cups. The calorie count will be much more accurate.

Check out clean eating magazine. They have TONNES of great recipes!

The last piece of advice I can give is to give food a chance. Most food that is pre-packaged isn't really food at all, it's chemicals. Try foods you've never had before, or cook foods in different ways than your used to. The only way to not be picky is to try things at least once. Good Luck!

    Here are a few more:

Breakfast: oatmeal w/ a drizzle of honey, raisins, nuts; hard boiled eggs, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, whole grain bread with peanut butter, whole grain cereals with little/no sugar, fruit

Lunch: Sandwich using whole grain bread, tortilla or wrap, turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, mustard. Canned tuna is also a quick and easy lunch. Just make sure it's packed in water. I add a little mustard, and spread it on crackers or toast. Beans and rice, low sodium soups, salad with chicken/turkey/eggs

The key is to get lots of lean protein along with complex carbs (whole grains, fruits and veggies), stay away from sugar, eat healthy fats, eat OFTEN so you don't go into starvation mode and eat everything in sight and drink lots of water. Throw in some exercise and you'll be good to go. Good luck! It's not easy changing your eating habits, but so worth it!

  • Soup!!! Lots and lots of soup. It's filling, low cal (if you don't get the creams) and packed with veggies.
