Trouble TTC

x posted wwyd about IVF please be gentle with me

Hi,

My DH and I had a vasectomy reversal and with drugs and IUI we got pregnant and have a 10 month old boy. We have tried 3 IUI's medicated and no go.

My question is this, baby's youngest sibiling is 10 and I really want another at least for him to grow up with. We have no IF coverage and only make 65 k a year. (I am a SAHM). We Have almost enough in savings to pay for IVF but it would empty us out. We don't own but have a very long term rental house and Dh's job is secure.

Is it irresponsible to drain our savings? I am 32. It has taken us a year to save 10 grand.

Thanks!

  • We have used most of our savings to do IVF and we are looking at trying a third cycle.  You need to really make sure that you can handle it financially and even so, it isn't the smartest thing financially not to have some sort of back up.  That being said, it was a risk MH and I were willing to take.  However, we do not have any kids, we both work and we can save quite a bit in a year.

You should also make sure that what you have saved will cover the procedure and meds.  I spent significantly more than $10k on each of my IVF cycles when all was said and done.  You should also make sure that you factor in freezing and storage if you have extra embryos.  Especially since you would like more than one child.

This is a very tough decision.  If you go this route, you may look into whether you can get some help with drugs from the compassionate care program.

    Good luck!

  • Well, I'm going to be honest.  If I had a 10 month old baby already, I would not be draining my savings for IVF.  If I had no children, I may consider it.

  • Thanks for the input. I think we will wait a year and keep saving. I am on medicated IUI number 4 now and if no go this cycle then I think we will hang it up at the RE office for now.
