xp: birth control and blood clots

You always hear/read that there is a chance BCP can cause blood clots.  My legs have been achy on and off lately so I started looking into information to see if this could be a sign of clots.  I'm on the mini pill Jolivette which does not contain estrogen and when I read about BCP and blood clots it states that its the estrogen that is believed to increase the chance for clots.  I do not smoke, I am a little overweight but only by 15-20 lbs.  From what I'm reading I dont believe I have clots but wanted to get opinions from others who may have dealt with something like this.

  • Someone here had a stroke from that.  I wish I could remember her UN.  Talk to your doctor though.  I swore off BCP a long time ago!

  • you should call your dr. just to give you a piece of mind.  I have not been on BC, I have some kind of mutation that makes me at risk for having blood clots.  GL
  • Go to the dr and ask for a leg ultrasound. My dad has one in his leg and it was caught pretty early.

  • It's me that had a stroke caused by BCP.  Anything with hormones ups your chances of having a stroke.  The doctors wont let me take any type of birth control.  I didn't smoke either. I also was only 25 and just slightly over weight. I would get checked out by a doctor if you are concerned.  Its not something you want to go through trust me.

  • I also have a genetic clotting disorder and can not take any bc. I was told that even progesterone only is not an option. Call your dr. if you are really concerned.
