Potential Dumb Question Alert

When is it ok to switch from the baby wash(for hair/body) to kids shampoo/conditioner or leave in conditioner? L's hair is so long and there's so much of it that the baby wash just isn't cutting the tangles.

Re: Potential Dumb Question Alert

  • I had this question myself.

We used my nephew's 2in1 shampoo/conditioner when we were visiting them at Thanksgiving.  It made such a difference in the texture and static in Tyson's hair so I bought a bottle when I got home.  His hair also gets really knotted in the back when he sleeps so it helps when I have to comb it out every morning.

I just have the Suave Kid's brand.

  • At our last pedi appointment (18 months), the pedi said we could change to a mild adult soap (like Ivory)... she recommended it because Paige has pretty sensitive skin. We're still using up our J&J, but we might switch the body wash when it runs out.

She didn't mention shampoo/conditioner at all. The only thing I worry about is the pain of getting it in her eyes. Paige still gets a ton of shampoo in her eyes, and it wigs her out (and it's tear-free).

  • Thanks! I think I'm going to start out with the J & J no more tangles & see how that works.

  • Leah also has long and curly hair.  We actually, just last night, used Aveeno Baby instead of J&J Shampoo & Wash and her hair was so much softer and her scalp was not nearly as dried out. I know that doesn't help as much with the tangles, we get lots of those too, but I don't know if I'm ready to go to something that isn't tear free.

I just thought yesterday I need to try and find a spray-in/leave-in conditioner to help with the tangles.

  • We haven't switched yet, but when we do I think I may go to the new J&J Naturals line because it's cheap AND it is paraben- and phthalate-free.

They have the 3-in-1 shampoo/conditioner/body wash for kids.

  • We've used Aveeno baby shampoo + conditioner for a while.  I can't remember exactly when we started using it, but it was before her first birthday.  We wash her hair every couple of days.  In between washes I use a detangler to comb it out and pull it back and out of her eyes.  Her hair is pretty long and she looks like a wild woman if i don't do something with it. :)
