For starters, I have two cats. One is Harvey, who we've had for almost three years now and his son, Jack, who we've had for a few months. Harvey has always been super cuddly with me and lay between my fiance and I. Jack was more playful and would only ever sleep wrapped around my head on the pillow.
For the past two weeks, Jack has become a little more cuddly and has taken to sleeping on my stomach when I'm on my back, on the bed right in front of my stomach when I lay on either side, and on my lower back when I sleep on my stomach. While I find it cute, it's gotten really annoying when I can't move in fear of getting claws.
I've taken two home pregnancy tests last night and one this morning. All three are really strong positives. So my question is, can cats sense pregnancy? Or am I just being silly?
Re: Really weird question. Cats+pregnancy
Go Phils!!
Your kitties sound cute!
Last time around one of mine, my Emma, used to come sit on my bump when I was watching TV. It was strange for her as she is not a cuddly cat & if she is going to sit on anyone, its DH! As soon as I had the baby she went back to her usual ways!
There is so much we don't know about animals but I say they could have some way of sensing a pregnancy.
Oh & congrats on the BFP's
Some people think animals sense pregnancies. I don't. None of my three animals (two cats and one lab-mix pup) acted any different at any point in this entire pregnancy.
I'd chalk the cat's affection up to colder temps or general maturing.
My kitten is doing this too. He follows me everywhere and just sits with me.
I think its adorable
I have cats as well, one is obsessed with my husband. Always sleeps on his pillow and chest but for the past few weeks he has slept on my pillow or on my side, he does not leave me.
My puppy also seems much nicer to me, but he's just making his way through puppy stage so that might not be anything yet.
Cats are incredibly intuitive -- well, mine are, at least. Ours always know when something big is going on, and become infinitely more lovey and cuddley.
DH noticed it last night, actually. One of our cats was snuggling down beside me in bed, and DH said, "this is so strange -- this is exactly how he acted last time you were pregnant!" I hadn't noticed, but sure enough, he was right. That cat barely left my side for 9 months, and now he's back at it again.
Interesting topic! I have two affectionate cats. Anywhere I go, they go too. Anywhere I sleep, they are sleeping there too. But I haven't noticed a change before and after pregnancy. I do notice that when I'm down or have recieved bad news like hearing about a death of a loved one, my cats are even more affectionate. Like they want to comfort me but don't know how. hm?! I wonder why that is?
