Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Recommend your baby friendly car

I've lived car free in NY for the last 11 years. ?Now we're moving to CT and buying a car & we're clueless! ?We'd like a 4 door with a huge trunk that'll fit a pack & play. stroller and large suitcase and that has good gas mileage.?

?Any recommendations??

Re: Recommend your baby friendly car

  • We have a 2006 Grand Prix GXP.  It's quick (V8!) and big (trunk is huge!) ... perfect for us!  Gas milage isn't the greatest ... 18-20ish mpg ... but for us, the V8 is worth it.  We typically only buy domestic cars, though.  We also have a GMC Envoy for when we need to cart the dogs around or haul big stuff.

  • I have a Toyota 4runner and love it but that's an SUV .. DH has a 2009 Toyota Corolla and we both love that car .. Huge trunk .. Averages 28 mpg .. and the inside of the car is pretty roomy ..
  • We have two Acuras. I drive the MDX huge SUV; which is so handy with DS. No bending to get him in and out. The hubs has a TSX, a little small, but roomy enough and gets about 25-30 MPG.

  • We have an 08 Chrysler Pacifica. Wonderful family car!

  • We prefer non-domestic cars and currently have a Honda Pilot which is great! Lots of space and big and the newer ones are really nice!! And a Honda civic, which is a nice cat but not baby friendly. My parents however have a Toyota matrix and that will be my next car, very baby friendly and the perfect size!
  • I have a Jetta sportwagon, its the diesel and gets up to 40mpg and its got a good amount of room because its the wagon.

  • we have a Jetta sports wagon (diesel). It gets FANTASTIC gas milage. We love it.
  • I had a Toyota Corolla but it wasn't very baby friendly just because it was so small. I just bought a Toyota Camry Hybrid last week and LOVE IT!! The only downfall about getting Hybrid is you have reduced trunk space  because the battery is in the back, I can still fit my huge stroller and suitcases in there so it's still good for us. If you'd just get a regular Camry, you would have a huge trunk! Toyota Camry's have great gas mileage!

My family and I only buy Toyota's because we've had such Great experiences with them! We have owned about 11 Toyota's! We've even had someone ask my Dad if he was a car salesman for Toyota or something but he's not! LOL

This.  We're a one-car family (we live in the NYC region) and DH drives it (I commute to work by mass-transit).  It's very roomy and surprisingly maneuverable for a SUV.  It can easily fit our big BOB stroller and a full load of groceries.  It also has a button to close the trunk, which is very handy.  We did have a problem with the Bluetooth - it wouldn't turn off and it drained the battery - but once they fixed it, we've had no problems whatsoever.

  • When DD was born, I drove a Toyota Corolla (excellent gas mileage 28-35).  We have a large dog (retriever/ border collie mix) so we needed a larger car for all of the travelling we do since the dog always comes with us.  Now, I drive a Subaru Forrester and I absolutely adore it!  It handles so well in the snow- which you will probably need in CT.  I feel so safe in there too.  We can easily fit a travel system, a few large suitcases, and other stuff in the back.  For an SUV, you don't feel like you are driving one.  My mom is on her 3rd Subaru in 15 years, which is why we got the Forrester.

  • We're getting a GMC Acadia later this year.  But for a car recommendation, you really can't go wrong with Honda or Nissan. Something like the Accord or Altima are family friendly cars that are affordable/reliable.  They're the best selling cars for a reason.

If you're looking for something a little more "high class" the new Acura TSX is to die for. But still somewhat affordable.
