Hey girls!
Our baby has struggled with digestive issues since we had him. He is allergic to milk and soy (on hypoallergenic formula) and has acid reflux (on Axid for this). We have made significant headway on his stomach issues; however, we are running up against another stomach enemy to our lil guy - wheat. He could not do rice cereals or oatmeals. Any baby foods with flours did not work. He gets terrible stomach pains and is up most of the night in horrible pain. Our pedi keeps telling us that he will outgrow it by the time he is one, but I am getting terrified that he won't outgrow this.
We have started him on puffs and a few pieces of breads/crackers in the last 3 days. He has had tougher nights (not as bad as his usual reactions) in the last 3 nights. We are planning to continue wheat products very slowly until he either turns the corner in a good or bad direction on it.
So, my question - has any other babies gone through this? Did your baby outgrow this sensitivity? If not, what does your LO eat? Between a milk/soy allergy and wheat sensitivity, I am not sure what to feed our little man! I saw a post the other day about what people were feeding their 9 month olds and I got really depressed because every suggestion had milk or wheat in it! Boo!! No one in our families have any food allergies, so we are learning from ground zero on this.
Thanks for all of your help! I am sorry I haven't been around more....as you can see, we have had really hard sleeping issues and my LO doesn't nap much. I try to get as much done as possible when he's sleeping (read showering and eating!) during the day. I feel awful I haven't been able to keep up more on things, but I've just been trying to keep my head above water. I am getting nervous about heading back to work and leaving Colin with another caretaker in a few months with these allergies, but I am sure we will get this all worked out. And, hopefully, I will have more time for the boards then too. ![]()
I understand if no one wants to answer my questions though since I haven't been here to support people recently. If you do answer though, I would really appreciate it!!!
Re: Anyone's baby have wheat sensitivities?
So happy to see you on here! :-)
I dont have advice, but only hope that that handsome baby boy of yours can find some yummy foods that he likes. :-)
Welcome back! I have a reflux baby too. Axid was pretty good for us for a while. We haven't started solids so I don't have advice for you.
Hang in there!!! From what I hear there will be better days ahead in regards to the reflux.

I used to babysit a little dude who was allergic to pretty much everything. lol!
He ate a lot of plain fruits and veggies.
Don't feel badly about not being around. Being a mommy is a lot of work!
I personally have a wheat/gluten sensitivity, as well as an allergy to milk and eggs. It really was challenging at first, but once I figured out what I could have, it got MUCH easier.
I would think that finding a grain in bulk that he isn't allergic to -- such as quinoa, millet or other grains that are somewhat hypoallergenic (and gluten free). Then making it according to the recipe in Super Baby Food, adding water or his hypoallergenic formula to it to thin it and puree would make a great cereal (this is what we do for our boys). As for everything else, I just make them regular fruits and veggies, and freeze them in ice cube trays for them. It really isn't that much extra work.
I hope something out of that helps! I'm not on here much either, but was glad to see a post from you this time -- but I sure hope your little guy turns a corner soon!

My Dr. recommended Poi. I know it is an odd suggestion but my Dr. said it is easier to digest and has more calories than rice cereal. I'm not sure if you will be able to find it where you live but it might be worth a try. I don't like how it tastes but Andrew loved it and ate a ton of it when he was little.
Good luck!
My friends son (he is 14 months) has a dairy and wheat allergy so she is in a similar situation (although I'm pretty sure he is ok with soy). She has really had to change their lifestyle. I know that she has been able to find corn based products to use for finger foods - I'm pretty sure he eats Kix cereal. And he also eats a lot of fruits and veggies. Since his isnt a gluten allergy, the gluten free products dont help her. She really has to read the ingredients on everything she buys. And she has 2 older girls (4 and 2) which makes it even more difficult.
I'm sure she would talk to you about what has worked for her if you wanted. Send me a PM if you want her email address.
