good sam maternity classes

Was wondering what everyone thinks of the classes offered by Good Sam/ B. North Hospitals.  I?m not from this area, don?t know anyone who has delivered @ Good Sam to help guide me.  Classes I?m considering include:  TriHealth All-Day Childbirth Class; Breastfeeding and Beyond; Infant/Mother Care and Safety Class; Totsaver; Fast Track to Fatherhood; Happiest Baby on the Block.  Any advice is appreciated!

Re: good sam maternity classes

  • I havent taken them personally, however most of my friends have and recommended their favorites to me. We are doing the All day Birth class and breastfeeding as well as totsaver and that is it. We are delivering at B north, however we are taking classes at good Sam since its closer. We will just do our hospital tour at B north. My ob recommended all of these as well and just stated the others as "optional" classes. Hopefully he is right!

  • DH and I attended infant/mother care and CPR (different from tot-saver). Both were very helpful. I also enjoyed BF and Beyond but went by myself. I would NOT recommend Fast Track to Fatherhood. My DH attended, and I was disappointed to hear that it was mostly the speaker promoting his own parenting philosophies (such as, moms should stay at home, etc.). I don't think Good Sam knows what's being said in that "class."

  • I took happiest baby on the block there... totally worth it. You get the DVD there which I found much more helpful then the book.

  • We took Your baby's amazing journey a week ago & the All day birthing class on Saturday. I found them both helpful & worth it - I wanted to know their policies/procedures see what the rooms looked like, etc. Course seeing the babies in the nursery made it all worth it as well!! It REALLY did last 9-4 though with an hour for lunch so plan on that!

Kevin is scheduled for fast track to fatherhood on Feb 10th. I'm scheduled for the breastfeeding one on Feb 1st. We are also signed up for the Tot Saver/CPR one on 19th, Happiest baby on the block on the 21st. We are also doing the sign language one (but forget the date) & a safety class in March (last class) whew!! that's a LOT of classes!! My parents are also taking the grandparents class & the cpr one with us since my mom is keeping Nolan when I go back to work.

If you are a planner/like to know what is going on/etc. I would recommend at least the two that I have taken - I don't know about the other ones as yet. I've "heard" that breastfeeding is REALLY good if you plan to do it & have got tons of recommendations for the happiest baby on the block.

Since I'm high risk -seeing the doctors at Good Sam & delivering there all my classes were 50% off so that helped cost wise.

Let me know if you sign up for any of the dates that I'm scheduled or if you want to know how they went for me- I'm more than happy to update you!

  • thanks to all of you for your advice.  this definitely helps guide me on which classes to take.  i think we're going to aim to take classes in april and may-- have to coordinate w/ my husband b/c he is only here every other weekend.

  • I took the Breastfeeding and Beyond, the all day Child-birth and the tot-saver classes...and delivered at Good Sam. I would highly recommend each of these classes and had a fabulous experience delivering at GS. The "teachers" are very knowledgeable and the classes are very informative. The classes are also a good place to meet other people similarly situated. Hope that helps!!
