3rd Trimester

Superstitious?

So, i have everything for baby all ready to go except the crib is not built. my mom bought me the crib as a gift and wont give it to me until the baby is born.?

She says its bad luck building the crib before the baby is born and will not let me get the crib ready no matter how much i beg. I know of 2 other co-workers of mine that did the same.

As for me, im not?superstitious?AT ALL... does anyone else out there do the same??

Re: Superstitious?

  • I know some of my Jewish friends do this, but otherwise I haven't heard of other people doing it.

  • Nope, mine is put together already but we have yet to get the mattress.?
  • Weird, very weird. ?Mom and Dad bought our crib 1st thing when we did our registry and wanted us to set it up right away so we'd have one less thing on our mind to get done before she arrives. ?I have a Jewish friend who had?traditions?like that....not setting up anything until the baby was born? ?Still think it's odd!!!!!

my mom is actually catholic but believes in everything that brings bad luck.?

  • Wow, lol! ?My parents are devout Catholics as well, and I think?superstition?isn't part of the religion! ?Maybe it's just a personal thing of hers....if you really want to be all set up, just talk to her, explain that it'll drive you crazy and even let out of some of those hormonal tears if need be :)?

  • Well, I am superstitious but I keep it to myself. I have the bassinette set up but it's hidden in the closet and I removed half of it(though it's still technically put together) I don't really believe in the superstition because I'm not a nut job, but the part of me that remembers my grandma's wives tales still obediently nods my head and tells me not to do it. lol
  • OMG my mom was the exact same way!!!  She said I couldn't set up the crib until the baby was born.  I sat down and told her that I really wanted to have the baby's room set up before he arrived because I will have enough on my hands to deal with.  We had agreed to one month before.

Try telling your mom that it isn't actually bad luck to set it up before as long as there is a stuffed animal in the crib.  I was going to break that out if my mom wouldn't agree to earlier.
