felt a pop

While showering earlier, I felt a strange sort of "pop" down there. But then nothing happened. A lot of people describe this sort of "pop" happening as their water breaks, except mine definitely didn't, and I'm not leaking anything either. Has this happened to anyone before? Should I be expecting a gush of water later?

Re: felt a pop

  • Are you sure it just wasn't your little one creating a popping feeling?

I have no experience with water breaking and the pop that some say happens but I would imagine if experienced a pop that your water would come shortly afterward or right away.

  • I didn't experience a pop with DS1 and DS2, but I have on this pregnancy.  It happened about three weeks ago when I was sitting on the toilet.  My DH actually heard it in the other room.  When I asked my OB she said it was likely my pelvic bone or hip bones positioning better to accomidate baby.

I would say if you haven't had any leakage or gush, it was not your water.  That happens right after the pop if it's your water breaking (or so I have been told).  You could always bring it up on your next OB appt if you're still concerned.

I agree with the above. as your pregnancy gets further although you ligaments get looser and you pelvis can shift. I had popping before i got pregnant and it's gotten worse in the last few weeks as everything spread/makes room for baby.

I felt a pop when my water broke prematurely with DS.  I have felt that same pop several times this pregnancy and my water hasn't broken yet.  I guess it's probably the baby causing the pop and when my water broke with DS, maybe he just hit it in the right spot?

  • I had this happen with my first when I was turning over in bed. It was so loud my husband heard it. When there was no fluid at all, I was so confused. At my next doctor's appt I explained the sound and she said it was most likely one of my ligaments "popping" when I moved b/c they get so tight from stretching. It was a strange feeling!
