I'm pretty sure I've read here and other boards that the Bundle Me's are not the safest approach to keeping baby warm in a car seat. Is the JJ cole car seat cover a safer option? It never even crossed my mind to register for one of these since I'm due May 1, but my sister said I would still want it next fall/winter. What are your thoughts on this?
TIA for the help!
Re: Bundle me question
the new JJ Cole cover is totally safe!
The bundle me is NOT safe, and the PP is completely wrong. They were not "made for car seats". In fact, if you look at their advertising, it is most often seen in strollers, and when it IS seen in a car seat, the car seat is not in a car. There is a VERY good reason for this.
I love this article that explains why they're unsafe:

But like others have mentioned, they will always void the car seat warranty. This can effect if or how much your insurance will pay for injuries and damages.
There are options out there that are not only safer, they're cheaper!
As for registering for something...I don't know that I would bother. Your baby will probably be close to 5 or 6 months when it starts to get cold enough to use it, and a lot of people choose to move their children to convertible car seats around that time.
yeah. No one said a snowsuit was safe either. Personally, I think anyone who uses a product knowingly, that is both dangerous and voids the warranty on their car seat (and, in many states is technically illegal because it does not follow the proper use cause) is an idiot. And yep, I sure as heck judge them for it. And then I feel sorry for their kids...because it's not their fault their parents are knowingly risking their lives for a little convenience.
Totally agree.
To keep doing something that has proven to be unsafe is just plain dumb. Do you really NEED the bundleme? I just can't see risking my baby's life for something that will make him hot and sweaty (and is ridiculously expensive). A blanket seemed to work just fine for me and my baby was safe, and it was homemade and free.
I don't judge people who use a bundleme and are ignorant of the fact that it is unsafe. I judge the company for marketing it as a car seat accessory. And I judge the parents who KNOW it is unsafe, and still continue to risk their baby's life.
And like go4 said, fine that you are an idiot... but your child shouldn't have to be in unsafe situations because of your stupidity.
We have a BundleMe that we use on our stroller seat and love it. It is the "toddler" version, because it is designed for a stroller and not an infant bucket-style car seat.
Something like this would still likely be beneficial for a summer baby, as I'm sure you're going to want to take walks late fall/early winter. We took some walks in December with it and it kept him nice and warm in the stroller.
For our car seat we got a shower-cap style cover called a Cozy Cover. It was $15 at Walmart and works great. Layers (onesie+footed PJs or pants) plus a blanket over the straps + the Cozy Cover is all we've ever used with his car seat.
