Think about things you would like Lydia to have. Or fun toys that she has really enjoyed since Christmas. James has these pull back cars from target that he loves. Kohl's has those books that have the coordinating stuffed animals (right now its Eric Carle stuff - LOVE him!)
the puzzles with large knobs, mega blocks, anything that makes noise lol, and bath toys I think would make good gifts
If you know they are getting something larger from parents/grandparents that has accessories i.e. a play kitchen then the accessories are always good.
I found this really cool cell phone toy at Target yesterday. Aubrey is obsessed with cell phones, and this one actually sounds like a cell phone with the buttons, and the ring and stuff, plus you can record messages on it for them to hear. I had always tried giving her our old cell phones but I figured out pretty quickly it was the sounds of the phone she liked best, and this way she doesn't accidentally call someone on mine And the best part was that it was only $8!
Dolls are also a good gift for a girl. Aubrey loves on hers and her stuffed animals and she will cover them up with blankets and stuff.
well, I guess Lydia doesn't have much in comparison, but she's happy and enjoys her toys.
The puzzles are a good idea and I thought about just doing the books - I got some from showers from family friends who are teachers and thought about just getting those.
Thanks girls!!! I'm just horrible at this 1st bday gifts.
First birthdays are really more about the parents than the kids anyway, they don't know what's going on. We just came off Christmas so chances are the kids you're buying for have a TON of new toys already. I love the suggestion of books, LOs can never have too many books
I usually give books for all birthday gifts... until they are a bit older. IMO, kids get SO MANY toys these days. Books are easy to store and they can still enjoy them.

Aubrey doesn't have that many toys either...and most of the ones she does have were given as gifts for her birthday and for Christmas. You honestly want to know what she enjoys the most? Books, taking dishtowels and "wiping" things down, and taking stuff out of containers I have such as my candle tarts out of the pitcher I keep them in. Oh and tupperware bowls...she likes to stack them. Simple things is what they seem to like the most.
Ditto to the books! That was actually all I got Mason for his 1st Christmas {a Children's Book of the Month subscription}
And it's great whenever Barnes & Noble does the Dr Seuss specials {like buy 2 get 1 free}. You could stock up on lots of board books then!
Book of the Month sounds great. Which one did you do? And FYI, Amazon has a buy 3, get 1 free book special going on and it includes kids' books.
I just did the Children's Book of the Month. We don't get books sent to us unless I order them. They've had some really good specials lately {like 66% off the publisher's price...which is already reduced}. You just have to watch them on S&H, but I just clicked to see my order history and for instance, my enrollment order was 14 books for $31.57. My second order was the 66% off and was 5 books for $22.10.
Re: 1st bday gifts.........
