Daycare

For those of us who are going back to work after the LO arrives, what are your daycare options?

Im happy to say I have actually gotten a daycare provider already!! and she has an opening for an infant in October!! I'm glad I called today because there are now 4 other women in the area pregnant and due right around the time I am!! and super excited to be able to have daycare in the same town as I work, which will be great for taking a breastfeeding break!

Re: Daycare

  • I'm really not sure what we're going to do yet...there is a daycare on campus where I work but it's extremely expensive. My mom is willing to watch the baby one day a week, and I'd like to go to a 4-day work week if possible. The other days I'd rather find someone to watch the baby in their home as opposed to daycare, but I'd have to figure out how to find someone.

  • Lucky you! I am still trying to bring my dreamer of a husband out of the clouds and tell him that he cannot possibly work a normal 40 hour workweek from home from 7-3 and take care of an infant, even if his job would let him. I have a good daycare right next to where I work, and that would be tops on my list, if I can get him to admit we need it.

  • I'm really nervous about this. Part of me wants to stay home but the smarter half knows we'll struggle because of it. I just can't seem to find a place that's affordable and taking infants.
  • Note: My provider works out of her home, so the LO will be in a home environment w/ a certified provider. And my boss' girls will be there every day after school and have been going to her house since they were born, over 8 years ago!

That's awesome. My sister and I always were in a home environment (though it was afterschool care, we stayed with family when we were younger) and I would really prefer that.

  • I work 12 hour night shifts 3 nights a week.  I will only need child care a couple days a week when I am sleeping during the day.  I plan on having someone in my home to watch the baby.  I plan on breastfeeding so the baby sitter can just bring me the baby during the day when he needs to be fed.  I have coworkers who have it set up like that and it has worked really well for them.

  • There's no way either of us can stay home so daycare is must.  I'm more into a larger daycare instead of a home because of the social aspects.  (DH & I aren't that social and I don't want to pass that on.)  I need to start looking into it ASAP.  I Just wanted to wait until 11 or 12 wks.

  • I am going back to work, and I found an amazing child care center. It is on both my hubby and my way to work so we can take turns picking up and dropping off.
  • I have a son who is 15 months and had such a problem with the daycare issue.  I signed up for a reputable center near my house when I was 7 months pregnant.  I was fortunate to stay at home for 5 months.  When it was time to go back to work and I took him to the center, I was so unhappy.  He was in a room with 10 other babies... He wouldn't sleep.  He sobbed when I left.  So I found a licensed in home place and moved him.  Best decision I have ever made.  He LOVES it there.  He gets one on one attention and sleeps so well.  The new LO will go there too.  I think its such a personal decision.  What was so amazing to me is that when I was pregnant, I was so happy with the center, but once my DS was here... I couldn't handle it.
