TTC After a Loss

How many OPKs

would you recommend an OPK newbie purchase?  I've never used them before but I keep thinking I should order some to try for next cycle if this one is a bust. I know it will depend on whether I test once or twice a day but just curious.

Re: How many OPKs

  • I would just go on Amazon and buy a pack of 40 OPKs and 10 HPTs.  Here's a link to one that's only $5- I have used this and they work really well:

  • I've been contemplating this too. It's getting confusing to track and try to predict and being this stressed about the whole thing probably isn't helping. I'm thinking about doing this also if this cycle doesn't pan out.

  • You can buy a 20 pack of the CBE digital ones on Amazon for $20.  I like that the digital ones take the guess work out of it.  On my last cycle, I used 7 OPKs but I'll probably use less this time as long as I don't O late.  I got a little paranoid last time, so I wasted a couple of tests that I shouldn't have. :)

  • When I first started using them, I used like 7 a cycle.  Now that I'm more used to reading them, I might go through that many in a day, just trying to catch "the surge."  It's totally not necessary, I just like to pee on things :)

I got the 100 OPK/20 HPT combo on Amazon and it has lasted me 3 cycles.  The time before I got the 40 OPK pack and it lasted about 4 or 5 cycles.

  • Last cycle was the first time I used them and I used around 15 total.  My cycles have been very unpredictable since my second loss so per the instructions I started using them on CD 8 (since I'd had cycles that were only 25 days long).  I liked using cheaper ones every day, but also having digitals so that I wouldn't have to drive myself crazy if I was uncertain about one.  I'm really glad I started using them.

Same here. I go through maybe 4-5 per cycle so these last me quite a while and they are dirt cheap!

  • I got the First Response OPK (month worth) at Wal-mart for $30 because it came with a mail in rebate.  They were ok...just had to look at them really closely in the light.  With it being that cheap on Amazon, I may have to go there if this cycle's a bust.

Because of the great "Snow"vember of 2015, my medicated cycle was cancelled.  However, we were blessed with our little rainbow baby due on 8/14/15!  Baby J had other plans and decided to make his grand ole entrance on 7/4/2015!

Surprise!  Our little girl entered this world on 12/8/2016 after her eviction notice was long past due.  Our little turkey baby turned into a snow baby!

  • I have used OPKs serveral times and like them. I tried the line tests before but I found them to be too confusing and I was always second guessing myself. The digital ones are fool proof and if you go online and buy them in bulk like the other ladies have mentioned it's not too bad and they've very much worth it.

I just miscarried on December 26th and I started testing with OPKs on January 4th, I got lots of negatives and just when I was about to give up (because I figured I wouldn't ovulate again until my period returned) I decided to keep on testing just in case.

I was surprised to see a smiley face indicating a positive result the evening of January 22nd and the morning of January 23rd. If I hadn't been testing I would have been convinced I never ovulated and I would have never done the baby dance with my husband because we were visiting family over the weekend when the positives happened.

I think the OPKs make a very stressful task just a little less stressful. You feel more in control. And if you also chart your temps with the OPKs you'll know everything you need to know with your cycle.

I bought these last month and it was a great buy!  In addition to that I would also recommend buying the less expensive OPKs and using those first.  If it looks like a positive cheaper OPK, then confirm with the CBE digi OPK.  This saves the more expensive tests and helps eliminate the guesswork.  GL!
