Pre-natal Yoga

I'm sure it's already on here but I can't seem to find a question related. I didn't do yoga prior to being pregnant and I bought a DVD to start since I had heard it can help aleviate some of the normal pangs and twinges associated with pregnancy. Has anyone had a positive experience using a pre-natal yoga workout? I also don't feel too comfortable doing anything more strenuous since I've had a previous loss. I am 13wks now and staying hopeful. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

  • I was doing yoga before, so I've just continued my regular class. I also do a prenatal one off yogadownload.com and like it.

Most prenatal yoga practices aren't going to give you big gains for fitness, but they are good for stress relief and for keeping things stretched out, which can help with aches and pains. I would also talk to your doctor about other exercise; odds are your loss had nothing to do with your activity, and you may find adding some other low-impact exercise really helps how you feel. I swim, walk, ride the recumbent bike, and have continued my weight lifting, all with only positive effects.

  • Thank you for the feedback. And I have the perfect walking buddy LOL A 16 month old Lab

  • Hello, I usually just lurk here but I have to recommend the Jennifer Wolfe prenatal vinyasa yoga dvd. I did either the 30 or 45 minute practice three to four times per week throughout my pregnancy and I felt so strong! Most prenatal yoga dvds are more of a gentle stretching routine, but not this one- it really felt like a workout! I kind of missed it after my DS was born Stick out tongue I also power walked, biked, hiked, etc. and I believe that being active really made my second pregnancy a lot more enjoyable than my first one!
  • I'm loooking to understand exactly this topic on what is out there..if you exercised before pregnancy take this quick 5 question survey!
