Success after IF

Early potty trainers

Did you stop doing a before-bed sippy before you potty trained? Right now I'm mostly concerned with potty training during the day, but I'm wondering if I should start to wean her from that last sippy, too. I can't imagine she'd be able to drink a full 8oz sippy then stay dry all night, even if we tried. I'm hoping to start next week or the week after and DD will be about 17 mos old.

Re: Early potty trainers

  • I don't recall the WHEN of it all, but Ava used to do a huge bottle/sippy prior to bed, and I phased that out. I never "restricted" fluids post-supper, but did try to get her to pound them at the table. We went potty when we got jammies on, and again 2 minutes before tuck in. I'd say if she can pee an hour after that 8 ounces she might stand a chance. But it depends on the kid.   I'll also say, this girl has always been night-dry, holding that bladder for 12 hrs. so not sure if that helps or not.  (we started "loose" EC at 8 months, she peed often on the toilet when I'd put her on it, and I never bought diapers after her 2nd bday. She'll be 3 in march)

Now daytime in a restaurant when they have cool dryers? yeah, um, her bladder holds an ounce and she has to go every 2 minutes. lol.

  • Different experience here. Both out of daytime diapers at 20 months but didn't overnight train unti 4 and 2.5 respectively. My advice is to not sweat overnight training until you've conquered day time first. For most kids they're very different things. And to answer your question we did stop liquids after dinner.
