PCOS - Trying for #2 - Should I chart before seeing RE?

Wondering what input you ladies have :)

I'm finishing up my BCP this week and planned to chart for a few months before going to see RE (thinking I need proof that being PG the first time didn't "cure" my PCOS).

What do you think (yes, I plan to call the office and ask once I'm home from work and ask)? Is that really necessary or should I just make an appt and get started?

I'd just hate to make an appt, get the time off work, and pay my hefty co-pay for him to say "here, chart for XX days, then come back)....

Any input is appreciated :)

Re: PCOS - Trying for #2 - Should I chart before seeing RE?

  • I didn't. Neither my RE nor insurance even questioned me about whether or not I would need treatment (turns out I do and I need to do more to get pg this time around, and DS was only 7 mos old when we started TTC for #2--still not pg). At least by my insurance, if you required infertility treatments for your previous pregnancy, you are approved to start treatments right away for your next pregnancy. There's no proof needed and no waiting period.

  • I didnt. I just went back, they did a month of bloodwork monitoring to make sure I didnt O, and then started me on treatments. And the month of bloodwork was just to show my insurance company so they would cover treatment...if I was OOP they would have started right away. I think if you have been treated before you dont have to wait.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks :) I'm hoping to just get this ball rolling and not wait it out. I'm not really concerned about my insurance (they didn't question it the first time), but I was curious what the RE expected :)

    Thanks again!!

  • I didn't chart before going back to my RE, but I was pretty sure he was going to recommend IVF again (which he did), so charting is pointless when you are doing IVF.

  • my RE looked at my chart for 1/2 a second the first time i saw him and said "yup, that looks like a PCOS chart".... then told me to stop charting- there's no reason to when i'm in his care b/c he'll know what's goin on in my body with US and bloodwork... and that charting is so inaccurate anyway- esp for PCOS women - too many things can throw it off- so it's a waste of time.

if your RE likes you to chart- then i suppose it can't hurt- but i don't see why an RE would want you to if he is monitoring you via blood and US.

  • Thanks ladies :) I made my appointment for the 7th...time to get this show on the road!!!
