Trouble TTC

What day do you start taking clomid for IUI?

Can anyone share?  Also, what is the first day you had to come in for u/s monitoring?

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

Re: What day do you start taking clomid for IUI?

  • The most common dosing schedules are CDs 3-7 or CDs 5-9. It's usually just a matter of the RE's personal preference. I have heard that CDs 3-7 is best for increasing number of follicles and CDs 5-9 is best for optimal egg quality. If you respond to Clomid well, you can expect to O 5-10 days after the last dose. Depending on when you start the Clomid, I think most people have their first mid-cycle u/s between CDs 10-14. Good luck!!
    IUIs #1-3 (1x unmedicated, 2x Clomid) = 2 BFNs, 1 m/c at 7w3d
    IUIs #4-6 (injects) = 3 BFNs
    IVF #1 = BFN
    FET #1 = BFN
    FET #2 = BFN
IVF #2 = BFP, b/g twins lost at 20w due to partial abruption/PPROM
    IVF #3 = c/p 5w2d

Thanks! I am sure the doc explained it, but I was in too much shock to listen.

  • I went in for my first u/s at day 3 and took clomid on days 5-9
  • I took Clomid days 5-9 and my first u/s was CD 15. My one follicle was still there (18mm) , I had another u/s on CD 17 (23mm and surging) had my IUI for CD 18.

  • I did Clomid d4-8 and ultrasound on d12 lst time (and this time too--starting Clomid today). I had three good follies with that, so triggered d12 with IUI d13 (my RE seems to do IUI's a bit earlier than most--26 hours rather than 36 hours).

  • I took Clomid on days 4-8, then had my first monitoring u/s on day 12. I ended up triggering on day 14 with one cycle and day 16 with another cycle.

After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!

Thanks for this Blue, it's good info :)  I'm on Clomid from CD5-9 this cycle. I've never heard the egg quality vs. number of follicles thing- I am really hoping to get 2, I guess we'll see.  Also, I wonder if the O thing varies.  I have been ovulating the last few cycles on CDs 11 or 12 and the doctor that monitored me this time said that Clomid might push it another day or two, but he didn't say 5-10.
