Trouble TTC

Wanted: Sperm Killers

Haha, sorry about the cheesy title...

My IRL friend is going through IF also. She just started going to the same RE as me. She was with an OB who "specialized" in fertility before and they put her through 6 cycles of Clomid(even though she had no ovulation problems) and 2 IUI's.

Turns out, her body is killing her DH's sperm so the RE told her that her only option would be IVF. She's having a hard time with making the decision to do IVF, plus she's going to be OOP which sucks even more. Is anyone else going through this? I'd never heard of this problem before and wondered if it was a common IF problem or super rare.

We talk about IF often and I'd like to give her some words of encouragement even though I'm not going through exactly what she is.

Re: Wanted: Sperm Killers

  • I think one of our current IVF bumpies has this problem.  I can't remember who at the moment.  But it is typically caused by antisperm antibodies.  I hope you find some information.

Oh, I think it is KrysiaHamaty.  I believe her ET is this week.

  • Is this when sperm enters the blood stream some how, and then the body makes anti bodies for it?
  • Ive read about it and kinda wonder if we could be having this problem.  I haven't ruled it out yet even after talking to my RE about it and her not really a big believer of it.  She seems to believe more in beng allergic to the semen and having noticable reactions to it.  I don't have any reactions after MH "deposits" but like I said we have been TTC for a long time and even my RE seems to think we should have had a surprise BFP by now.

With the minute amount I have read on it I "believe" (and could be wrong) that IUI can also be used since the whole issue revolves around the CM being Toxic.  SO like i said I could be wrong, but that it what I remeber from what I read on it.  I did see a special on TLC about a lady that was allergic to her husbands semen and she had to do several procedures to get her body to be used to the semen.
