Crib/Changer Combos - dangerous?

I was looking at a crib/changer combo @ BRU and was wondering if anyone has had experience with their baby climbing out easily onto the changer since there is that small ledge where they can swing their little foot up on to pull themselves up.

Re: Crib/Changer Combos - dangerous?

  • with my first son i had the crib/changer combo and never had a problem with it. he was in his crib till he was almsot three years old and he's tall and big for his age (he wears a 5 currently). i'd totally recommend that style of crib.

  • The "experts" say that they can be dangerous for babies as they can use the changer to climb out of the crib.  Some babies are climbers and some babies are not.  You won't know what kind of baby you'll have until they climb or not.  ;)

So that's why the make the general recommendation across the board.

If it's a concern to you, you might want to think about getting a regular dresser and then putting a changing pad on top of it.  That way you're buying a piece of furniture that can be used for a long time.

  • It seems like it would be dangerous, but i can't imagine they would still be selling them if they were. My issue with it is i wouldn't want poop near the crib! i liked having the changing pad on top of the dresser, so now we still have a functional dresser.
