I just called my GYNO. I was just told for the first time in my entire life I have an abnormal pap (I am sorry if this is not making sense, I am crying right now). They want to do a biopsy right away....and to top that off my HPV test came back positive. F^ck....anyone else have this? I am so scared.
Re: And to top it all off, abdormal pap smear.
I have had several abnormal paps. Honestly, I know how scary it is, but it is very very common. I never realized how many of my friends had HPV and abnormal paps until I had my first one. It is most often a minor thing, and any abnormalities in the cervix are generally pretty slow to get "bad," so just make sure that you follow up with the Dr., and you will be fine. Good luck!!
I had an abnormal pap when I was 22 with the suspicion of HPV. I had a colposcopy and a year's worth of paps every three months. After that, everything has been normal. It has been nine years since then.
As unpleasant as it sounds, HPV is not a death sentence. A huge percentage of the population has it and doesn't even know. There are several different strains and only a few of them cause problems like warts or cervical cancer. Most likely, it won't change your life at all.
I'm sure that it doesn't help to hear that from a stranger and you have to go through this on your own and feel your own feelings. Make an appointment for the biopsy. Ask a lot of questions and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. You will get through this.

I tested positive for high-risk HPV last year and my doctor didn't seen overly concerned. They just told me to make sure I get my pap every year-they didn't even think I needed to come in every six months. Apparently it can go away on its own, so I'm hoping that has happened when I go in next month.
Good luck with the biopsy.
I had an abnormal pap and positive HPV about 5 yrs ago. ?6 months after my first abnormal I had to have a 2nd pap which was again abnormal. ?
They then did a biopsy which turned out fine. ?I had to have paps every 6 months after that for about 2 yrs. ?I've never had another abnormal since then.?

P/SAIF Welcome
I go in on the 4th at 9am to get checked. Does this mean I have to put off TTC? I was so excited and now I am not. But I still want to try...
Unfortunately, HPV is ridiculously common. I had when I was 19 and it took awhile for my pap's to come back normal. When they did the colposcopy (sp?) they didn't find hardly any abnormal cells. Just try to breathe and understand that you are not alone.
Aslo, HPV can be in your system for years before it shows up in a pap. .
((HUGS)) It will be ok!
I don't think so but you should call your doctor's office to confirm. Even if they can't get you in before then, they should be able to tell you if they want you to wait or not.

They told me not to have sex for 2 weeks after the biopsy. If you don't O then, then no, you don't have to put off TTC.
I've had my share of abnormal paps and colposcopys. Double check with your doctor, but it had no effect on TTC for us. You will have to abstain from sex after the biopsies, but it's not for very long. GL & even though it's upseting, remember that this is pretty common.

If you are getting a colposcopy then they will ask that you abstain from sex for 2-4 weeks...depending on your doc I guess...mine had always been 2 weeks. I've had abnormal paps on and off for years now, and have had a few colposcopy's and my first LEEP last year when it wasn't clearing up itself and was getting worse. MANY women have HPV and most dont even know it.
I happen to be a l"ucky" one with a high risk strand so I'll be in those stirrups every 3 to 6 months for a while since I had a LEEP! But if your results come back mild you should have to go back in every 6 months for a year (maybe a year and a half) and then go back to once a year. It shouldnt hinder your TTC efforts unless you have to get any other procedures done (colpo, cone biopsy, leep etc).
Ill keep my fingers crossed that everything just works itself out! But props to you for taking care of yourself! I always admire ladies that get their shiz taken care of! So many of us dont! Some women my age have never ever HAD a pap!! HELLO!?!?! I just cant imagine!
I had an abnormal pap, a colposcopy, a second abnormal pap, and then a leep a few years ago. My dumb @ss doctor (I switched) didn't test the cells to see if they were HPV related or to type the strain of HPV. It was scary at the time, but it ended up being no big deal. I just had to get more frequent pap smears for the next two years (every 3 months for the first year, every 6 months the next year).
I talked to my new doctor about it when I switched and she said that she couldn't definitively say whether it was caused by HPV (because my doc didn't type the cells), but that it almost always is. She also told me that researchers estimate that 90% of sexually active adults are positive for HPV unless you and your SO are the only partners either of you has ever had.
Try not to worry too much! I hope that it will all be fine for you!
I was also told by my dr. that almost 90% of sexually active people have some form of HPV. My husband found out he had HPV right before we got married and I went to my dr. to see if there is anything I should do. She told me I most likely have it since I have been exposed to it and that it isn't anything to worry about.
Also, there was a women on TB who had a coloposcopy right before her fertile window. Since she wasn't allowed to have sex her doctor told her to have him put just the tip in when he ejaculated. She ended up getting her BFP that cycle.
Let your Dr. know that you are TTC and they can advise you on the best way to handle the situation. I hope we help you feel a little bit better about all of this. I know this is hard thing to go through. Hugs!
I was diagnosed with HPV about 6.5 years ago after I got an abnormal pap result. I went for followup paps every 5-6 months for about a year and a half. After which, my OB/GYN gave me a clean bill of health (well, excluding the PCOS).
When I asked her about TTC and HPV she indicated that it shouldn't be a problem. She said that the only issue she has seen in the past are women who have strains that produce warts can have flair ups during pregnancy.
I'm sorry that you're having a rough day - first your ex and now this. But know that you are not alone in your struggles and we are hear to listen whenever you need it!
I am sorry : ( I know this is scary.
I had my first abnormal pap come back in April of '10. When I went in for the colposcopy/biopsy I had mild-moderate findings. It has actually improved on its own and I have not had to put off TTC. The only thing is I have to go back every 3 months for paps.
Like other PP's have said more people have HPV than don't. I felt singled out until then. T&P's are with you. = ) I hope you get good news.
A good friend of mine went through this a couple years ago - the abnormal pap and HPV. She had what I guess was a biopsy - they put her under and did some sort of "scraping". She is totally fine now and has had 4 normal paps in the last 2 years. She was definitely freaked out. From what I understand, it is fairly common, and manageable.
Good luck, I hope everything goes well and comes back normal soon!
