Indiana Babies

Measuring 4 weeks ahead.

Currently measuring at 27 weeks when I am only 23.  My doctor isn't concerned yet and said she'd check me again at my next appointment.  If I'm still measuring that much ahead, she'll do another ultrasound.  I also have my GTT next appointment.

I really hope I'm not growing a giant baby!

  • Wow! I'm sure everything is perfectly fine, but I'd be terrified of having a huge baby too!

  • Please excuse my ignorance, but does that just mean the baby is big, or is there any other concern?

It could mean nothing, just that the baby was in an odd position when she measured, baby was up really high or just my body type.  On the other hand, it could also mean the baby is big, I have excess fluid, or possibly GD.

My doctor wasn't super worried at this point and is just going to see how I'm doing at my next regular appointment, so I'm trying not to be worried too, but it's hard.

Thanks for the info!  I hope your GTT comes back good, and that eases your mind.  Hopefully the baby is just being a stinker and sitting funny in your belly :-)

    Prayers that it's nothing!

  • I measured ahead with both girls.  With Lucy, they wouldn't even tell me how much ahead I was measureing, probably so I wouldn't worry.  Having a giant baby isn't too bad--there's just more of them to love!  :)
  • The appointment just before I gave birth, I measured 3 weeks behind where I was, then 3 weeks ahead, then right on schedule, just based on how I was positioned on the table and where my legs were. It's generally pretty accurate, but there's plenty of wiggle room for error, so I'm hoping you just had an error day!

  • Wow - I am sure everything is ok but I would be worried too!  B was 8lbs 4oz at 37 weeks so I always wondered how big he would have been if we had gone to 40wks.  Hopefully at the next appt everything will be on track - or at least closer to your date.
  • My doc doesn't do those measurements so I always wondered how they could really accurately measure you w/o doing a u/s.  Now I am going to have to google it because I can't imagine that they'd measure around your belly but that's all I can picture.

Fingers crossed that the babe was just sitting funny and you get a happier measurement next time!

  • I grow giant babies, am short with a short torso, did not have GD, and ended up having great v deliveries and very quick recoveries.  Your body can do amazing things, so I'd say don't worry!
  • I was measuring ahead during one of my appts with Olivia too.  Try not to worry too much and I hope the next measurement is more on track!
  • With my second, I was anywhere from 5w ahead to 1w behind (near the end of the pregnancy).  I think I was 5w ahead at like the 22w checkup.   I thought that was weird, but DS2 was fine.

He was 8lb 7oz when born at 39w.   He was a little bigger than DD1 but not much.
