I feel so awful for her. Her face turns red, she strains, and now she's crying every time she goes, and after a ton of work she'll just go one small, very formed and hard poo. Our pedi said to give her a sippy cup of water to 1)help her to learn to drink from a sippy and 2)supplement fluids when she's not hungry and getting breastmilk. Last night we did the thermometer trick, bicycled her legs, rubbed her belly. I am thinking of calling the pedi but what are some of your tricks if you've gone through the same thing?
Re: DD is crying every time she poops
The Nutty Life
This sounds familiar. We tried all the tricks and at the point that my DS was straining to hard he was bleeding when he would finally pass something I caved and the pedi said go for the miralax. My DS can not handle ANY cereals at this point are we are back to constipation again. We started doing 1/4 of an adult dosage of miralax (mixed in food or prune juice or BM) twice a day. Once he was moving then we dropped down and now he gets about 1/3 of a dose once a day.
I just could not handle him being in so much pain and I was honestly starting to get concerned that he would just stop trying to go for fear it would hurt.
Good luck - drop all cereal, add water, prune/pears or the juice and then if all else fails ask the pedi about miralax.
My DD has been doing the exact same thing. At first it was the bananas....it was making her too constipated. Then we figured out that she had a few anal fissures (cuts on the anus) that was making it painful to go. So we have been putting on Butt Paste every time we change her. Also prunes for breakfast every other day and a water sippy at every meal. The oatmeal has been making her a little constipated too, so we just don't put in as much at a meal.
Even still she'll cry a little, but it's a lot better than it was. For us, it was a few culprits that was making her uncomfortable. It's hard to see them go through this. GL and I hope you find a way to make her feel better!
