Another PIO post

Yesterday I went for my baseline appointment.  Everything looks good and I start stims on Friday.  The nurse talked to me about PIO. She asked me if I went to the injection class for PIO.  I told her no.  I only went for the other injections before my first IVF.  She says I HAVE to go and DH too since he will be giving me the shots.  I told her that I probably will be doing them myself because DH travels.  She said I can't do them myself.  It is too difficult.  I need to find someone else then :(

For those who have done or will be doing PIO, did you go for a separate class for this?  Are you able to do them yourself?  I am stressed now.

    I know that Sulfa was able to do them herself and I think POF did hers too, but that was awhile ago so I'm not positive.  I found this video on youtube for her when Sulf was preparing to do it for the first time.  Maybe it will help relieve some of your stress.

    OMG. I am going to die. That needle is mother f-ing huge!!!  Just have to keep reminding myself, this will all be worth it in the end, this will all be worth it in the end....

    You can totally do them yourself.  It requires a bit of twisting, but it's doable!

    My clinic didn't have separate classes for injections.  The RE Nurse shows us how to do it, then another nurse showed us at ER.

    I'm with Jill!  You can do it.  I do prefer DH to do them, but if he's not around I can totally do it myself. 

    Everyone is different, but for me heating the area for 15 minutes before and massaging and heating for 30 minutes after is a huge, huge help. 

    Make sure you change the needle from the big 18 1/2 needle to draw up the PIO to the 22 1/2 needle for injection!

    There are several girls on IF that do their own PIO injections.  I do not, but I could.  I didn't have a separate injection class for PIO.  But, before my first ER, the nurse explained where the injections should go and reminded us to check for blood before injecting.  That was it.  I hope you can work things out with your clinic.  That being said, you can certainly do them yourself.  Good luck!  Yay for getting to start stims soon!!

    ~SAIF/PAIF/Everyone Welcome~ 

    Me= 37 and DH = 41 

    Dx: DOR, Endo, APA+ (really high beta 2 glycoprotein antibody and high everything else tested), heterozygous MTHFR mutation, positive for lupus anticoagulant, high FSH, low AMH and both tubes blocked (per HSG on 3/8/11)

    IVF #1 - long lupron (with HGH, intralipids, lovenox and BA); 4 retrieved, 3 fertilized; ET 2 blasts and 1 frozen = BFN

    IVF #2 - a version of antagonist with EPP (with HGH, intralipids, lovenox and BA); 6 retrieved, 4 mature, 3 fertilized, 2 blasts and 1 frozen blast transferred on day 5 = BFN.

    IVF #3 April was postponed to May, May was canceled. June/July was canceled. Had a cyst aspiration and then began IVF #3 in August. ER on 8/22; ET on 8/24 with AH. +HPT on 9/5. Beta #1 (11dpo) = 3; Beta #2 (15dpo) = 29; Beta #3 (17dpo) = 60; Beta #4 (19 dpo) = 118. Heartbeat at 6 weeks 6 days =132.  Lil is here!

    TTC#2:  Trigger + TI = BFN; Clomid + Trigger + IUI = BFN.

    IVF #4:  BCP + MDLF + Lovenox = 7R, 1F = Transferred 1 6-cell embryo on day 3 = BFN

    IVF #5:  MDLF + Lovenox = 4R, 1F = Transferred 1 10-cell compacting embryo on day 3 = BFN

    IVF #6:  (New RE):  Long Antagonist November 2014 (transferred two 8 cell grade 1 embryos and froze one blast) = BFN

    FET#1:  BFN

    I haven't started my PIO shots, but I'm in the same boat as you. DH isn't around most of the time when I'm home, so I will have to end up giving myself the shot most of the time.  I'm scared to death to do it too....
