OB rec's

Hey ladies! I currently go to Mid Carolina & see one of their Drs who only does GYN.  It's almost been a year of TTC, so we plan to soon make an appt to see what's up.  I have heard a lot of negatives about Mid Carolina and plan to switch practices.  But I live & work close to Rex & would like to still deliver there.  Oh & I've never seen a guy so would rather go to a practive with mostly women doctors.

I have gotten postive feedback from friends & coworkers about Associates in Women's Healthcare, Atrim OB/GYN & Captial Area OB/GYN.  Where do you go?  After reading my essay above, who would you recommend?  Who would you stear clear of?

Thanks ladies!  Hope to be here more soon!

Re: OB rec's

  • I go to Capital Area, and have for the past 10 yrs or so. I see Dr Barrett (female) primarily, and really like her. Over the course of my pregnancy, I saw several of their Dr's and liked them all--some more than others, of course, but didn't see any that I didn't like. There are 2 males (I prefer females too), and I liked them both. A female (Dr Gaussman) did my c/s, and was really nice. I hadn't seen her during my pg checkups, but felt very at ease with her on Holly's birth day. :-)

I go to the Cary location, but they also have one at Rex, and I delivered at Rex. GL and HTH!

  • I go to Atrium OBGYN.  I like them a lot, and I had a very good experience there with the doctors and nurses there while pregnant with DS. Only twice did I have to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen by a doc while I was PG (and it was the same doc...he tends to run behind...I'll tell you who when I see you next).  My favorite doctor (Dr. H) is leaving this June to go overseas, but I'll continue to go to Atrium.  GL with your decision!

  • I go to Associates in Women's Healthcare - they are all female, 5 doctors (I share your preference for a female OB/GYN), and they deliver at Rex.  I saw all 5 while I was pregnant, and liked them all.  My favorite is Dr. Chawla, and I see her now as my primary.  I had a great experience with them during my pregnancy (aside from a few long waits in the waiting room).  Dr. Jacokes delivered my son, and she was really encouraging during a difficult delivery.  I was about ready to give up and have a c/s, but she was a great cheerleader and encouraged me to keep pushing.  It took almost 3 hours, but I got him out LOL.

    GL with your decision!

  • I go to Blue Ridge OB/GYN. I HIGHLY recommend them. They have an office right across the road from Rex and one on Durant Rd. in North Raleigh (Behind the Kohls on Falls of the Neuse).

I live in Henderson and had to find an office when I got pregnant. I literally found them on the internet by googling OB/GYN in Raleigh area and I lucked out! I really really really like them. Great group of Doctors. and it sounds like it would be convient for you. I mainly see Dr. Gaines (male dr.) or the Dr. that delivered me was Dr. Anya. I really like her too.

  • I went to Mid-Carolina for my first pregnancy & delivery.  Wasn't horrible, but it was busy, impersonal, and I didn't get enough info when I was in labor to make decisions I was comfortable with.  I felt so much regret over my labor & delivery.

I'm pregnant again and had several OB appts at Mid-Carolina.  Like you, I really wanted to stay with Rex hospital because it's so convenient.  Only OBs deliver at Rex.  I hired a doula and she didn't recommend any of the other OB practices at Rex.  She suggested that I switch to seeing UNC nurse-midwives at UNC hospital.  They offer a much more personal, supportive environment during pregnancy & delivery.  Also, they can prescribe pain medicine during labor and if there's a problem, an OB will take over.  It's a pain to get out to UNC for appointments, but I'm happy with my decision to switch.

  • I go to Wilkerson OB/Gyn. They are in the Medical Plaza right next to the Women's Center at Rex. I've been with them for 13 years now. www.wilkersonobgyn.com

Ditto this. LOVE Blue Ride OB/GYN. I never had a bad experience with any of the MD's. They do have male drs, but they're great. I see Dr Anya and their WHNP and love both of them!

Also I had TTTC and they were very supportive and started all the initial work-ups with no hesitation. (Whereas my former OB/GYN office balked at me).

I really like Karen Hilbert too! She's the one who had to schedule my induction when I was a week overdue. She really makes the patient feel important and listened to. She also asks alot of questions, which I like.

  • I use Mid-Carolina and actually love Dr. Creighton, she is super friendly and warm. She delivered my son. She is their newest hire, right out of UNC residency and amazing. If you have to go to Mid Carolina again, I would suggest trying to see her!
  • I go to Wilkerson - which is basically at Rex. I LOVED them throughout my pregnancy and actually am a little sad I don't get to see them on a regular basis now lol!  They have all female MDs except one.
  • I go to Atrium OB/GYN and love it there! I used to always only want to see a female OB/GYN but after getting pregnant with DS and meeting all the doctors there I def. have changed my mind and am comfortable with all of them. I like murph never really had to wait and they were just so nice and supportive always. As far as the females go I love Dr. Beatty and Jill and Amy who are NP's but they can still see u for most of the visits but the male doctors have great sense of humorrs and def. put me at ease. Good luck with your decision.

  • I also go to Blue Ridge OBGYN and I have been for almost 5 years. Dr. Gaines delivered my daughter. I have no issues seeing a male Dr. but I do like the women they have on staff, esp Dr. Anya and Nurse Hilbert (just saw her on Friday). I have never had to wait long, and am usually in and out within an hour for OB appointments. I plan on having Dr. Gaines deliver #2 as well, but some people don't like his bedside manner. They deliver at Rex and I was (and am currently) very happy with my regular GYN and OB care.

  • I just started at Centre OB/GYN at Rex.  They came HIGHLY recommended by a friend who is a nurse in the area and I can say nothing but wonderful things about them!!!

If  you have to move past the OB in TTC to an RE/Fertility Clinic- I recommend steering VERY clear of Carolina Conceptions (I've had a bad experience there and have heard many other horror stories) NCCRM has also been given quite a bad wrap by many people I know.  Personally my favorite has been Duke Fertility, Dr. Walmer.  He is the most amazing doctor I've dealt with this entire process.

    Best of luck!

  • Thank yall so much for replying!  I'm still trying to get opinions & doing a little research on them, but this really helped! :)
  • I go to Mid Carolina as well. This was not my regular doctor group so had switch when I found out I was prg. So far I have been happy with them. There are one or two OBs I am not thrilled about, but love Crieghton, Inge and Stephens. I am hoping and praying that one of them will be call when I deliver.

The OB Nurse, Joan, has been most outstanding. I have called on her several time and EVERYtime, she has answered my questions, addressed my concerns, and made me feel not so crazy about calling for even the smallest/simple issue or concern.

    Good Luck!
