I've been meaning to ask you guys this for ages...what's the deal with not using hot water straight from the tap? I think about that all the time now since I've seen you guys talk about it. Over Christmas, my cousin was making her baby's bottle with warm tap water and I told her she shouldn't do that (although I'm not sure why, LOL). What's the deelio?

So - when you use "warm" water - you're actually using a mix of hot water and cold water (hot water coming from one pipe, cold from another, mixing in the faucet and coming out - warm.) What you don't want is that hot water. If you have a hot water tank - you're drinking (or in this case having your baby drink) water that has been sitting in that big old tank - with mineral and/or metal or sediment deposits just dissolving away in it! And even if you don't have a tank, the same goes for the pipes the hot water travels through. What temperature water do you use to get stuck on food off of a pan or plate? HOT. Because it dissolves stuff - fast. So it's doing that inside your water tank and/or pipes too. Not a big deal (USUALLY!) for bathing or showering. But you don't want to drink it - and you certainly don't want your baby to drink it. That's why it makes me CRINGE when people use warm tap water to make their baby's formula. Ugh.
Cold water is less likely to have all that extra crap in it. However, I would still (and did) only use FILTERED cold water too. It has less crap in it than hot water - but not zero crap. Using a Pur or Britta or Zero Water or whatever filter gets even more of that junk out. And remember - the water company only has to be sure that it's safe when it reaches your home. They don't check the pipes in your home. They are also allowed to declare water "safe" even when it still has crap in it - pesticides, etc. As long as that stuff is at "acceptable" levels - it's "safe." Again, another reason to use a filter. Just to get as much unwanted stuff (environmental toxins, etc.) as possible - out - so your child is drinking the purest water possible.
