Parenting after a Loss

sleep question

N started sleeping in his crib last night. He is doing well but he keeps wanting to sleep on his side. He started doing this in the bassinet but I thought it was because he didn't have enough room anymore. Is it okay for him to sleep that way? Should I gey a positioner to keep him on his back? He wakes up every time I roll him over, so I don't know what to do.

Re: sleep question

  • Has he rolled over yet? "They" say once your LO starts rolling it doesnt matter how they sleep because they can just roll back over if they are uncomfortable. If not, then I dont know.. maybe try a sleep positioner a few nights and see if that helps! My DD didnt sleep on her side till around 6 months lol

And I know how you feel - my DD slept on her STOMACH the other night for the 1st time and I was really nervous but when I went to get her the next morning she was back on her back. Since then she's been all over the crib doing 180's in her sleep hahah

  • K would roll on her side when she was a few weeks old. We bought an infant positioner and I woke up one night to find she had wiggled down and her little face was mashed against the positioner. It scared me and I through it out. I ask our pedi about it and she said it is much safer to let her sleep on her side then with a positioner.

If you are concerned I highly recommend the angel care monitor. I think we paid $100 but when she started sleeping in her crib I felt so much better.

  • He rolls from stomach to back easily but has only rolled to his stomach once. I'm just so nervous. OMG I couldn't imagine my reaction if N tried sleeping on his stomach!

  • once they can roll to the position they want then it's fine. we also used a positioner for a long time to keep her head on different sides because she had a flat spot. we also around 3 months started to let her nap on her belly and she loved it!

  • My LO prefers his side too, he's like a boomerang whenever I try to turn him to his back. If your LO is comfy that way, I'd let sleeping babies lie. Wink

  • We too used a sleep positioner and never had a problem with her wiggling far down on it.  We used it for about 3 months.
