2nd Bday at Chuck E Cheese too young?

I am thinking of having DD's 2nd birthday at Chuck E Cheese but is 2 too young? If I remember it seems like most of games were for kids 3 and up, but I am going by when I was a kid! I also thought about having it at Gymboree. I just don't want to have it at my house like last year! Any other suggestions would be appreciated too!

  • I don't think its a bad idea. I think you should also consider the age of the kids that you will inviting as well. Are a lot of them of age that they would really enjoy going there? Or are they all the same age (or younger) than your LO?

FWIW, my Mom had my birthday party there and according to the home movie, I had a great time!

  • It does really depend on the age of the other kids attending. We went there when ds was 2+ and he was too short to play most of the games. They did have a little toddler play area, but he couldn't even play in the "bigger kid" play structure because he just wasn't tall enough to get up in it.

For a 2 year old, I would think that Gymboree would be a better choice.

  • What about a bouncy room type place. Usually big cities have lots of them.  Our group of friends always have birthday parties at these types of places and the kids have a blast.  Kate loves them.

Most of the kids will be within a 6 mos. of her age (18 mos-2.5 yrs.)because I am inviting my playgroup and a couple of friends that all have kids around the same age.

  • I'd say given the age of kids that will be there... I'd skip Chuck E Cheese this year. Wait till they're a little older and you don't have to worry about them getting knocked down by the big kids. Unless you're having your party on a school day during school hours when there won't be any big kids around... even still, many of the games are over a 2yo's head, literally and figuratively.
  • We took DD there a couple months ago because my mom wanted to take her and I knew she would be too young, but she really was.  Things are a lot different now than when I was little.  No ball pit, no "stage" with the robotic characters moving.  There were 2 little rides that I could strap her in and she could ride on and that's about it.  Everything else was for much older kids in my opinion.

She liked the pizza, but having a bunch of 2 year olds running around there I think would be nuts.  They would have to be completely supervised and wouldn't be able to do much on their own.
