37 weeks and measuring at 35

I had my 37 week appointment today. Yay! My OB got me excited saying that I'm full term now and there is no reason to call her unless I'm in active labor - painful contractions 3 to 5 minutes apart for an hour.  I clarified that it might take me an hour to get there and she said the same rules apply.

Everyone that sees me is surprised that I'm due so soon; I guess I'm carrying really small.  I've gained 35 pounds and it's all in my boobs and basketball belly.  I know for a fact that my due date is correct since I was charting when I got pregnant, but I feel like I'm going to go over since I don't have that I'm about to pop feeling that pregnant women often get.  I'm jealous of all of you who get told every day that you look like you're about to pop and such!

My OB doesn't do internals until 38 weeks and I haven't had an ultrasound since week 27.  But my fundal height is 2 weeks behind now.  Hmm... it's been 1 week behind for weeks, but she says she doesn't worry unless it's more than 3 or if there hasn't been any change.  Her explanation - I'm going to have a small baby.  Has anyone else been told this?

It's seems odd to me.  Both dh and I were over 7 pounds (and he's a twin!).

Re: 37 weeks and measuring at 35

  • I'm measuring abt a 2 weeks behind too. Had 38 week appt today and I'm measuring at abt 36cm. My Dr. wasn't at all concerned. Everyone says I'm carrying small too although I feel like a tank lol. DS was 7.9 lbs, and I think carried bigger last time. If Dr. isn't concerned I wouldn't worry about it :)

  • I'm measuring a week behind as well.  Everyone has been saying how small I am for 37 weeks.  Ive had a balanced diet and my job requires me to work on my feet. My doctor had me go in for an ultra sound today to check on things and I called to check on it.  Her explination is that she will be smaller as well, but not to worry and her heart rate is strong. Had me worried all day though, still kinda bugs me, but if shes healthy then thats what matters.
  • Similar story here.  I was 36cm today at 38 weeks.  The previous 2 weeks I was 35cm (so no change one time, but OB wasn't worried).  However, my OB says (based on previous ultrasounds) that baby is BIG!  At 20 weeks and 28 weeks he was > 90th percentile.  I've gained 30 pounds so far and all of it is in my belly (a little in the boobs but only went up 1 cup size).  I was underweight to begin with.  So while it doesn't really add up to me, I still wouldn't worry.  I'm actually worried about the opposite - my baby being big and needing a c-section.  I hope you will stay measuring within 2 weeks so no one needs to worry.

  • Dittooo! (with two weeks behind)

Except i've been getting rude comments from people I hardly know about how I need to wait to go into labor til after my due date because my baby is going to be way too tiny and will need extra help. You know what people who don't have med degrees? How about you stfu.

  • I posted earlier about this too. Today at my appointment I measured 29.5 weeks and I am almost 36 weeks. They scheduled an ultrasound for tomorrow and I am sure it will be fine, but I can't help but worry.

And then mt mother decides to lecture me about how I am not eating enough... I eat until I am about to pop! I have been gaining wieght and even though she is trying to help... it makes me feel like she is saying it is my fault. Anyway, sorry for the brief vent... hope everything works out! I am sure your dr will follow up with you if there is reason for concern!

  • It could also mean that you've "dropped" b/c thats what happened to me. I've been measuring right on target every week up until today...and he said, well that mean's she's dropped and ready to come. So, don't let it freak you out! No one believes me when I tell them I'm due in a week...they are all shocked. Be happy no one is telling you that right now. :)

  • With DS I measured 4 weeks behind.  When I had him at 38w+some days he was 8lbs.  Don't get worked up over your fundal height.  At this point it's really inaccurate.

  • I measure behind by fundal height, and baby is a couple of weeks behind, too.  What your dr. said about not being worried unless there's no growth or baby is more than three weeks behind is the accepted practice.  I'm sure everything is fine.  Plus, fundal height can be way off and you might have an average/big baby, afterall.
