My husband is a snake breeder. Let me explain this so you do not get the wrong idea like most people do. Nothing we have is venomous. They are all in the basement. We have a locking baby gate at the top of the stairs. The door to his snake room is locked, AND all the tanks he built himself and they lock as well. We have NEVER had a snake escape. EVER!
Most people are not really educated on snakes enough to really understand what he does. Yes we have a baby on the way, but that does not mean I am going to walk in this room and hold my child in front of a snake. Absolutely not! People just make assumptions when they here my husband is a snake breeder. Even people who I have been friends with for a long time. So when I wake up and find a comment like this on my facebook, I tend to get really, really, really angry!!!
"a.grave really, do yo still have the snakes??????????????????You are having a LITTLE CHILD SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!REALLY. Please you must be a good mama!!!!!!!!!!!"
It makes my blood boil looking at the comment now! I deleted this person from my friends list. I have known her for 4 years now. But before I did, this is the letter I sent her:
Dear F,
I was appalled and really angry at the comment you left me. This one:
"a.graves
really, do yo still have the snakes??????????????????You are having a
LITTLE CHILD SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!REALLY. Please you must be a good
mama!!!!!!!!!!!"
For you to insinuate that I will not be a good
mom just because we have snakes in the house is not only degrading to me
and my judgment as a soon to be mom, but also spoken in ignorance. I
really thought you were a good friend until you wrote that. I wish to
not surround myself with people who think like you. Please do not
contact me ever again. You crossed a line that should of never been
crossed. The snakes and my baby are none of your business.

I guess I am just venting. But to me that comment was a REALLY low blow!

Re: Beyond p!ssed!!!! Kind of long!
I can understand... as the owner of a pit bull, a well-trained, amazing, fabulous pit bull, I get similar ignorant comments. It can be infuriating.
**hugs***
My cousin has a pit bull with 2 kids and when they go on walks it is the same thing with them.
It is very irritating the ignorance of people. I really do try not to let it get to me, but when someone tells me to be a good mom.....that tends to get to me!
Frustrating. I can't believe a friend would say that. My cousin had a lot of snakes in the basement and my family ragged on him about safety over and over until he just found new homes for them all because he was sick of the nagging. I think people who don't know about something become judgemental rather quickly.
I know people even say stuff like that to us about our two dogs. "You're going to find new homes for them once you have the baby right?" These comments make me sick...they are our family! I always say "Yeah and then when we have a second child we will find a new home for the first one" and walk away.
My FIL had the nerve to say this to me. I asked him if he would get rid of his kids. He said no. I said, "good then don't you dare tell me to get rid of my dogs. Thanks." He said it was not the same thing, and I told him to me it is. And for him to mind his own business.
I am getting to the point where I am getting super snappy at people who make judgment calls like this and the one about the snakes. My sister had to help me write out the letter because when I started it started something like:
Dear F,
F*ck you and the horse you think you rode in on! How dare you tell me I am not a good mom because we have snakes in the house! Go to he!!. Do not contact me again. You are a horrible person for thinking this way. Maybe in the future you will think about what you say/write before you make idiotic comments such as these.
This is what I REALLY wanted to say. But my sister thought other wise.
but didn't you know that perfectly well trained/well loved dogs turn into blood thirsty monsters the second a baby comes into the house.
. atleast that's how people are reacting to my two furballs. People really are stupid when it comes to pets and babies, they can exist in the same home. People have done it for years.
I hate people that are like that. MH and I were denied the right to adopt a cat because we have a toddler already in the house and they didn't think the cat would be cared for enough. MH does computer servicing and there are alot of parts that are in the office, but we jsut make sure that we close the door or that we are in there if DS walks in. We have taught him that he is not to touch anything in the office.
You can't live in a bubble.
You have every right to be pissed off!!! I would be! We have 2 cats and a few people keep saying, "get rid of those hairy cats!", We have no reason to get rid of them...and because they are hairy?! I get into arguments with my mom about this a lot. A few people also think that our 5 year old cat needs to be declawed ASAP! He will scratch the babies eyes out! How inhuman to take his nails from him ever and especially now! That's like chopping our finger tips off! I get so mad at ignorant people. I just get so upset when they say, "well then you will be a bad mother if you don't declaw him...your putting your child in danger." F-U! Stupid asses!! That's basically saying I won't be watching my child ever! grr...
Both our cats are lovely and they love sleeping on my belly. The 5 year old is starting to think it's his baby and purrs loudly when LO starts to kick at him.
It's pretty stinkin cute!
People are sooo dumb! Oh, I'm mad for you! Growing up we did a helped our vet out by "fostering" animals that need some TLC and he didn't have room for. We also had pet snakes, lizzards, all kinds of things. Does that make my parents bad? I'm so sorry that this person had the nerve to say that to you on your FB.
On a similar note (just like PP said) I have a (gasp) pitbull/boxer mix.. and people ask us all the time if we are going to get rid of him... I look at them and say No and walk away.
Come on Sticky baby!!

Us too - we have a seven year old AmStaff. Sweetest baby ever! We also have a two year old with this LO on the way.
Some people don't understand what it means to be a responsible pet owner. I would never put the care of my dog ahead of my child and I would never let my child be around a dangerous animal.
