How do I help DS gain weight?

How do I get DS to gain weight? I EBF every 2-3 hours (I wait no longer than 3 hrs between feedings). He gets at least 2.5oz each feeding, and produces at least 10 wet diapers a day, and 5 poo diapers. The pediatrician doesn't like think he's gaining enough weight. SHe said she's not happy with his weight gain. What can I do to help him gain weight? Anything I can add to my diet or his? I'm starting to get discouraged with my ability to help him grow    Sad

  • How do you know he's getting 2.5 oz? Are you letting him nurse long enough on each side? If he's not getting enough of the fatty hind milk then it could have an impact on his weight gain.

We had weight gain issues in the beginning so here's what we did that helped.. I would let DD nurse and when she started to poop out I would pump 1-2 oz, change her to wake her up, let her nurse more until she was finished then would feed her what I pumped from a bottle. HTH!

    eta: DD, not DS

I weigh him before I feed, and after he's done (I'm a little paranoid with the issue).

Thanks for the info! He may not be getting enough hindmilk... I'm a overproducer, and he may not be getting what he needs. I'll try your trick!

  • I have a forceful letdown and also am a overproducer.  The lc I saw because Cooper was having weight issues started having me only feed on one side per feeding.  So any time he wants to nurse in a 2 hr time frame he only gets one side then the next 2 hrs he gets the other side.  It has helped him gain weight.  She thinks he was filling up before he got the fatty milk and this way he is gettng that fatty milk he needs.  His pedi wanted me to give  formula every few feedings and I did not want to so I saw an lc to see if she could help.
