If your LO has eczema...do you use bubble bath?

I tried the j&j babe bubble bath and wash, but LO had little bumps all over his body afterwards.

If you use bubble bath, what do you use?  I'm looking for something mild.

  • I use the California baby hair, body and face wash super sensitive shampoo. it is really mild with no scent, followed by the caledula creme. Works wonders for us and we live in a high dry very cold climate.

    This should do the trick.

  • I would check out the Skin Deep Database for safe, natural formulas without a lot of chemicals.  Any of those harmful chemicals are going to irritate your LO's skin if he has eczema.

  • I'm a pediatric dermatology PA - you should never use bubble baths for a child with eczema. bubbles are caused by detergents, detergens flare eczema. For soap, you should use something that is dye/perfume free. If your LO loves bubble baths and their eczema is not that bad (ie. no infections, etc) then I tell my patients parent's they can have a bubble bath  no more than 1x week

Wow....thanks...this is great to know!  He doesn't love bubble baths because he's only had a few bubble baths...I use just plain water.

I use Dove for sensitive skin...is that okay?  He hasn't had any issues with it.  For the most part, his eczema is okay, but during the winter it seems to get really bad.  He also had a breakout during the summer.

  • We had a major breakout due to bubble baths, we now use the Aveeno products, they cleared it right up.
  • If he's had no problems with Dove Sensitive, then stick with it. We normally recommend CeraVe or Cetaphil Restoraderm, but they are expensive, so stick with Dove unless he gets really bad. The key to eczema is keeping the skin moist and well hydrated. To do this, moisturize 3-4x day with a good cream like CeraVe or Cetaphil Restoraderm. Always use creams, never lotions because lotions have alcohol.

  • I never use bubble baths with my DS...in fact I wash his skin with soap or cleanser as least often as I possibly can, and when I do it its at the very end of his bath and he gets very well rinsed. I just dont even want to mess with the possibility of his eczema flaring up on me. Long soaks in warm water, patting the skin dry and then a thick cream all over his skin at least once a day sometimes twice is my usual routine for my DS.

  • DS sometimes gets dry/rough patches and the pedi told us not to use the Johnsons no more tears products b/c they are drying. When I switched to Aveeno, his skin is much better.

She actually recommended an extra moisturizing sensitive skin body wash (like for adults), but DS likes to blow bubbles in the water and it would burn his eyes. So, the Aveeno (actually Target brand) baby stuff is what we use now.

  • No way are we able to use any type of bubble bath on LO. He breaks out over every little thing...LOL. The only soap we can use is Cetaphil and the only lotion that will work is Aquafor. (He's allergic to Cetaphil lotion.) I'm not even attempting bubble bath at this point!
  • I use burts bees baby bee

  • We don't use bubble bath.

I saw you are using Dove Sensative skin.  That is also what we use as it was recommended by pediatrician.  We also use Vani Cream as a moisturizer.  You can find it cheapest on Amazon.com.  Our pediatrician also told us to put a little baby oil in the bath water and that seems to help.

Don't feel bad!! Check the ingredients in Aveeno...I think citrus acid is one (there are so many, I get them all confused). That's why we normally don't recommend Aveeno. BUT, I use it for DD and DS b/c they don't have too much eczema (well DD does once in a while).
