Trouble TTC

Saying hi, waiting for IVF

I have been lurking over here from TTC over 35, so thought I would say hi.  I thought my only problem was going to be my age,  but I just found out that I am going to need IVF to TTC.  I have a form of uterus didelphys.  Twin uteri, but unfortunately one is a good twin and one is a bad twin.  : (

I see that there are alot of IVF people over here,  so this board has been a great resource!

I am anxiously awaiting our first IVF cycle,  due to difficult logistics, I don't know how long I will have to wait.   Its killing me, I want to get going already.

We live in Mexico right now,  my RE is in Pittsburgh.   We may be moving back to the US in March but will be between Pitt and Miami.   Not sure how I am going to work it out.   I wish I could be in two places at once.  In the meanwhile,  trying to find out as much as I can about the process!

Re: Saying hi, waiting for IVF

  • I don't know anything about uterus didelphys but I wanted to say good luck and I'm sure any questions you have about IVF the ladies on here will be more than willing to answer.  I am currently doing my first IVF and I'm still in the stimming process(triggering tomorrow) so I don't have a whole heck of a lot of knowledge on it myself, except for the meds, lol!
    Me - Hypothyroidism & Endometriosis
DH - Low Testosterone (but normal SA)
    December 2008 - Pregnancy Loss @ 17 1/2 weeks (Trisomy 18)
September 2009 - HSG all clear!
    April & May 2010 - 2 Failed IUI's
August 2010 - Laparosocopy - all endo adhesions removed!
    1st IVF cycle - January 2011 - BFN
    FET#1 - April 2011 - BFN
    FET#2 - June 2011 - BFN

  • Wow, sounds like you have a lot going on!  As far as doing IVF between Pittsburgh and Miami, would your RE be willing to work with someone closer to Miami for some of your monitoring?  I luckily didn't have to worry about travelling for my cycle.  I hope your are able to figure the logistics out soon!  Good luck with the move!

I don't know anything about uterus didelphys, but I have been through two IVF cycles.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!  Good luck!

Hmmm  it would be great if they could do that.  I will ask.

Do you think it is better to do a cycle right away with a bit of travelling, or wait a few months until I can be in one place for the whole thing?  Obviously I don't want to wait!  Devil But I don't want to sabotage it either.

    Thanks for the welcome!

There are so many factors that would need to be considered to make this determination.  Does your RE think waiting will decrease your chances?  Will your RE work with a local RE for early monitoring?  How much time would you need to be away for your cycle (this varies by patient, protocol and RE)?  Also, how stressful would the travelling be on you?  Can you afford the travelling?

For me, I started right away because of my Dx.  My RE thought waiting could potentially harm our chances of success.  However, my second cycle was kind of rushed and was at a busy time for me.  Because of all the things that I had going on and the pressure I was under with work and everything, I really regret not having postponed that cycle to a better time.  IVF is pretty mentally, physically and financially exhausting.  You do want things to be optimal for a cycle.  So, you need to weigh the benefits of cycling sooner against the stress and issues from the travel issues.  That being said, there were several women at my clinic during my second cycle that had to travel for IVF and many of them had successful cycles.

  • STL34-  these are all really good questions and give me alot to think about and go over with my RE.

Fortunately, MH company will pay for a # of tickets per year for me since they transferred him and I had to give up my business.  I will be just returning to work (have project in Miami in March/April)  so that will be a bit stressful.

I feel like waiting decreases my chances because of my age, but will defer to RE on that.  Also, I could be waiting a long time to  get the timing right anyway.  I'm sure that is the case for alot of people!  Its never easy.

It is too bad I can't do it here in Mexico, because I have all the time in the world right now!

  • I would say talk to your RE and see when they are having cycles for the year.  With IVF - at my RE anyway (in Pgh.) they only cycle at certain times.  Like they started mid January and this cycle goes until the first week in March.  Then they will start another cycle sometime late march or early April through sometime in May.  And so on.

A lot of people doing IVF have to go on BCP's to line up their cycle, so that will take a few weeks as well.  And there are also tests they will want to run in the cycle preceeding your treatment cycle.

So, I guess what I am saying is that all of those things will take time as well.  After you talk to your RE (and ask the questions STL suggested also) then I think you will have a better idea of timing.  You may not be able to cycle until after March/April as it is.  Not sure if that will make your work schedule easier.

Good luck to you - I hope your RE can work with you.

Oh boy,  I have alot to go over with them!  Thanks for all of the info,  I am just starting to find out what is involved here.  Are you by chance going to Magee?  I see Dr. Sanfilippo.
