stripping membranes?

Just out of curiosity, have any of you had a conversation with your OB about when/if they will strip your membranes? Do they wait until right before your EDD or are they okay with doing it when you are considered term? My OB mentioned to me that we may strip next week already (which I thought was really early to try).

ETA: I haven't really looked into it and what it entails or if it something I even really want her doing but I have heard it referred to as a more aggressive pelvic exam.

    I had mine done today and it's not comfortable at all and I've had babies already so I can imagine it's more painful first time around. My MWs will do it only if you ask. I was 3cm and 70% so I asked for it. I'm 39 weeks tomorrow.

    mine will do it at 39 and 40 weeks if I want him too (I only get until 41 weeks to go into labor on my own since it's a VBAC and they won't induce).
