AW: Our Solution for Wintertime BWing (instead of a coat) PsIP

I hate wrangling DS into a coat, walking 10' to the car, taking it off again, getting to our destination and putting him back into it just to get inside and have to carry it around.

So..... I turned his baby blanket into a poncho.  I just throw this over his head. As you can see, he loves it for some unknown reason.  When we get to the car, it comes off with one hand and I use it as a carseat blanket. When we get inside the mall, I just tuck it into the side of my wrap.

Easy peasy.

  • That's awesome!  We have a bunch of baby blankets, and this would be perfect for them!  Thank you for the tip.

  • Did you sew velcro on the blanket, or how do you have it  fastented under his chin? I often throw a blanket over DS on the way to the car, but it always falls off of his head, so I'd love to use this idea!

In these pics, it's just a diaper pin because I was experimenting with size.  However, I went back and sewed a 1" section of the blanket with elastic cord so that it stretched to go over his head but there were no choking hazards (button, etc).  Big Smile

VERY cute. My kid screams bloody murder if ANYTHING is covering her head though. In the middle of a snowstorm, she'd rather get hit by snow. So... we just deal and I don't worry about it for the 10'. Does that make me a bad mom? (It's okay if you say yes. Smile)

NOPE!! Screaming baby trumps cold baby any day. Plus, they did a scientific experiement with the Navy about 30 years ago that proved that being cold does not make you sick. So, that makes you a good mom! :)

My kid screams when you put socks or shoes on him.  So we go out barefoot in 30 degree weather.  (his feet still sweat in this weather!)  I tried forcing the issue, my ears (and heart) couldn't take it!
