Ethan is home today with another double ear infection and a temp of 103. We have his procedure scheduled for 2/11 for tubes. How old was your DC when they got them. Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly with the procedure please. TIA
I have no hands on advice or info, but both of my stepchildren and both of my cousin's kids had them and they were in and out, quickly with no problems. I remember them saying something about it being "harder" on the parents. I home that Ethan gets some comfort, soon!

He got them last summer when he was only 8 months old. BEST decision ever. It changed his health for the better in every way. He has been less congested, has had less colds and most importantly, no ear infections
The procedure is very quick. From the time they took him back until the time we got to see him it was maybe 15 minutes.
He did throw up when he was coming out of the anaesthesia and it happend after we had been home for a couple hours, so I was kind of taken aback by that. But, it is a very normal reaction, especially since he was only 8 months.
Katie got tubes 2 weeks before her 1st birthday. They have been fantastic and we are very happy that she got them. No more ear infections and colds seem to clear up faster because the fluid actually drains out of her ears now.
They gave her a sedative so when they took her from me she was very sleepy so was not crying or upset at all. The actual procedure was less than 10 minutes. She did have a little trouble waking up from the anesthesia and was confused and crying. She also threw up a few times which they said was very normal. By the time we got home you never would have known the kid had surgery she was playing and had her appetite back. Over all it was very easy. My 2 friends whose kids had tubes both woke with from the anesthesia with no crying or puking so they had it even better than us. Good luck it is not bad.
Reese has had two sets and her adnoids out. The first time was quick, she was away from me for all of 20 minutes. She woke up crying, but I gave her a bottle, she slept on the way home and then was fine. The second time was a little more rough, because of having the adnoids out. She was just kind of cranky all day, but was fine by the next day. The worst part is when they wake up because the cry, cry, cry. It's normal, but heartbreaking because you can't do much. But I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! She had chronic fluid and infections and it was starting to effect her hearing.

I think I'm the ONLY one that regrets doing them. Jon and Matthew had them put in at 18 months and Jon was ok. He didn't have another EI until he was 3 and they didn't fall out. They became infected because they didn't come out. Matthew had 3 more with tubes. Chris had his first set at 14 months, second set at 18 months and 3rd set in December. He's had mastioditis last February and has had 2 more infections since the tubes in December.
DS got them last year when he was only 8 months old. It was the best decision ever!! Since then Carter hasn't had one ear infection whereas before the tubes he had chronic infections.
The procedure was super quick (less than 15 minutes) we barely had time to get a coffee in the lounge and sit down before we were called back. Carter was pretty out of it and cried for a bit when he was in the recovery room. Once we were released he took a long nap at home and then woke up as if nothing had happened.
I hope you little guy has good luck with them like we did. They truly have been a blessing for us.

Mason got them when he was 9 months old. It wasn't so much an issue with recurrent ear infections as with the fact that he constantly had fluid on his ears that wouldn't drain and he had severe hearing loss because of it. The worst part was not being able to feed him. He was very attached to nursing at that point, so DH got up with him and drove him on to the surgery center so he wouldn't see me and freak about not being able to eat. I came on with the other boys. DH was with him before surgery. Then the actual procedure itself only took about 15 or 20 minutes. They called me back just as soon as he started stirring and I was able to hold him as he woke up and nurse him just afterwards. He was fussy/sleepy that day and pretty fussy the next. Then he was back to normal two days after the procedure. It was definitely the right decision for us. His hearing has improved significantly. He started making sounds almost immediately and he is completely caught up now just 6 months later.

DD just had them put in 2 1/2 weeks ago. So far so good The procedure itself was super quick and easy. We distracted DD so she didn't realize we had left. We were in the waiting room for about 10 minutes before the ENT came out to talk to us. DD woke up pretty quickly so they had us go back right away. She was crying but stopped as soon as she saw us (a nurse was holding and soothing her). She asked for a cracker and was her usual self right after... no extra sleepiness or fussiness and she hadno effects at all from the anesthesia.
Mine was 13 months. It was so scary for me when they took her away, but the procedure really only took 5-7 minutes. Everything went well, but the poor thing was so uncomfortable afterwards she fussed pretty bad...and where we were we were in a recovery room with 2 other babies...that made it worse. Once they left she calmed down some. Had a bottle ready with me when she got out, but she didn't take too much of it. She slept for a few hours afterwards and was her usual self in the afternoon.
She's 2 now and hasn't had an ear infection since!
I've had them, MULTIPLE TIMES! I'd as in detail if they're putting in the types that are supposed to fall out after "X" amount of time or if they're putting in the permanent ones. I had 3 sets of the temp ones put in before they put in the perm ones and even then, due to all of the scar tissue, the left one fell out.
The proceedure, itself, is no big deal - they put them under for like 30 mins. No pain, etc.
I deal with a lot of issues from the temps falling out and subsequent scaring in my ear drum.
Re: TUBES...who's DC had them?
