B2B IUIs - A question

I had thought that IUI#1 and IUI#2 meant you had done two completely different cycles of IUIs. A u/s tech told me that I was doing two IUIs, since I'm being inseminated two days in a row (which is common practice, as I understand it.. Please, correct me if I'm wrong). She said IUI#1 and IUI#2, and then referred to them as back to back inseminations.

Maybe I'm just overthinking this, or maybe it's just her terminology. But I always thought IUI#1 is one cycle, regardless of how many times you're inseminated. IUI#2 would be a completely different cycle.

Thanks for any responses.

I've probably been on The Bump longer than you have.

Re: B2B IUIs - A question

  • I'm a little confused by your post, but I'll tell you when I did my B2B IUI it was two days in a row...your office may call it IUI1 and IUI2....hope that helps answer your question....

  • Well, I'm no Dr, but when I see in someone's siggie that they've done X IUIs I consider it X IUI cycles, not individual inseminations. Sometimes IUI X.1 and X.2 are used on the board and it's very clear that this refers to a B2B IUI cycle (part I and part II). But when it comes to how insurance bills something or a clinic refers to something, there may be no logic to the terminology.

Thank you. Yes, I'm having a hard time putting this into words, for some reason.

What I'm thinking: back to back IUIs means doing a cycle of IUI in February, then doing another cycle of IUI in March.

What they're saying: back to back IUIs means inseminating on February 14, and then on February 15th.

Ah, thanks Edwina. I was just sitting here, wondering if I had my terminology wrong. Not terribly important, but it's been bugging me all day. :)

  • I'm not clear on your question.  If it's for insurance and they will cover "3 IUIs" they mean 3 cycles.

Also good to know, thank you. I hadn't even thought about it in terms of insurance. My mind is just all over the place this month. Embarrassed

Ditto Edwina. I had 5 IUI's done (5 different cycles).

  • If you are having B2B IUI done, it should look like this.  Go in on, let's say, Tuesday.  Have an IUI.  Go back to your clinic on Wednesday and have another IUI done.  This is considered by my insurance as 1 IUI cycle.

Hope this helps.  Good luck with your cycle.

I understand what your saying, but it is not the case in the IF world.  Back to back iuis mean the day of and the following day.  See my siggy for details (I've had severalStick out tongue).  IF terminology can overtake you.

Thanks so much! Also, to everyone else who replied. I've managed to piece together most of the terminology, but I'll definitely have a better read through your siggy. :)
