My LO was always in the lower percentiles and gained weight very slowly so dr. ordered some blood tests and it seems like his CO2 levels were a little low. We got another blood and urine test done today to confirm the levels again...waiting on results right now.
Anyway, the pedi said that if the CO2 levels are low again, it might be RTA which is basically where his kidneys aren't taking in all the nutrients and basically just passing it through the body. She said it usually corrects itself by age 3 and can be treated easily. I am hoping he doesn't have RTA but just incase want to be prepared. Just wanted to know if there is any body else in the same boat.
Re: Any LO's diagnosed with Renal Tubular Acidosis/RTA?
We are going through almost the same thing. My LO is gaining weight, but apparently not enough so our Dr ordered some blood tests. The results showed that her blood was a little acidic and that we should meet with a Pediatric Nephrologist because she might have RTA. We have an appt on Feb. 1st so we will hopefully find out more. Good luck with your LO!
