Success after IF

Dochas

here is an email I typed out to a friend with supply issues because I had my fair share, here are all the things I did:

Okay, there are many things I did, but I will tell you dedication to build it up. 1. there are something called "breast buddies" https://www.amazon.com/The-Happy-Company-Breast-Buddies/dp/B001SERJVK Basically, you pop them in the microwave, put them in your bra and the heat activates your milk 2. kangaroo with her. Take your shirt of and go topless, get her down to a diaper and put a blanket over you and just snuggle her. The skin to skin contact will do wonders!!! I did this a lot! 3. blessed thistle! I will swear by this stuff. I had to order it online. It takes a couple of days, but love the stuff (if you need something stronger, there is mother's milk plus) You probably won't need anything like that. I was pumping for two. A lot of women have had great luck with fenugreek, I didn't want to smell like maple syrup, so I passed on that. 4. pump, pump, pump and pump some more. You can do power pumping sessions. When you power pump you pump for an hour, yes an hour. 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off, 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off. I would recommend renting a hospital grade pump for like a month. I would n't have made it without that. 5. You can get a recipe for lactation googles, easy enough to google. Here is one I found. https://www.food.com/recipe/oatmeal-chocolate-chip-lactation-cookies-by-noel-trujillo-192346 6. Hand expressing into a cup. It's a nightmare, but you can get a little more out than that. 7. water, water, water, water, water:) and absolutely no counting calories. The minute I missed a meal, my supply tanked. 8. hot shower, with the water running right on your chest, the hotter the better. I would jump into hot baths too or even put a heating pad on my chest.

Re: Dochas

  • Thank you so much for this.  I have not tried warm compresses and with this weather it would be nice for many reasons!  I bought a new double electric pump and it definitely feels like it will stimulate more than the one I had.  I used to just pump once during his am nap but now I try to do ~10 min after each nursing session whenever possible.  In the am I do 20 min.  I could try the power pump but I think it would be easier on the weekend with DH home.  I actually don't mind the maple syrup smell and my DH will love it lol.  If there's no reaction I'm going to add in the tea I bought and that has blessed thistle.  I will print this and try all your tips.  We're not going out today so maybe we'll have a nice afternoon skin to skin nurse/snuggle.

I could not have imagined in the beginning that I would be so scared to have to stop now.  All I wanted to do was quit and now I'll do as much as I can to keep goimg.
