DS had a temp yesterday evening of 100.1. "normally" he runs in the high 98-mid 99 range. I called the pedi nurse and she said to just watch it, give him tylenol if it got to 100.4 and to call if it was 100.5 or over. I took it reguarly lastnight and it did not get any higher and went down to low 98. This morning before we left it was 99.3. He has had a stuffy nose for a while now, which seems to have gotten a little worse the last few days. A few coughs but nothing that stands out. The last 2 nights & this morning he has had crying fits. SO unlike him. SCREAMING. He will go from happy/smiling to screaming and then after he calms down, smiling again. He has been constantly chewing/sucking his hands and the drool is insane, so I'm thinking he has a tooth coming in. I "think" I see one under the gums on top. He hates for me to look in his mouth so its hard to see. Nasal congestion can go along with teething, right?
I'm trying not to worry but our friends and their 14 month old came on Jan. 15th and now their baby is very sick with the croup, so that's all I'm thinking about. I get so nauseous thinking about my tiny baby getting sick. ![]()
TIA.
Re: What's the highest a temp can be associated with teething?
I'm sorry..its so tough when they get sick and we try so hard to figure out what is wrong..sometimes we just don't know and that sucks. temp 100-101.2 f?
For us, DD almost always runs a low grade fever and gets a cold. I know pedi's say teething does not cause fever but for us it has every single time. Just know DD has had a bad cold for almost a week, fever that lasted the longest ever..and what did I discover yesterday...looks like she is getting her 2yr molars ugh...
I usually would feel like he would be too young for teething but I have heard of young ones teething early..so after reading what you have described it could totally be teething but it could also just be he is getting a cold...
Just keep in eye on him and motrin worked better for us with fever..good luck!
I say he's got a cold along with teething.
EAR tugging and s/s of an "ear infection" can come with teething, but I never really saw stuffy noses with one. they can get a diaper rash (that's the ONLY sign Ava showed that a new tooth was in, that kid NEVER had teething pain, it was freaky weird) I'm a fan of the Hyland's teething tabs (not sure if they're kosher right now or not?) and giving motrin over tylenol once they hit 6 months. Just as a PSA be SURE to read the directions for dosing on meds like tylenol, etc b/c some are "extra strength" and you give less, less often than others of the same type.
It's never fun seeing your kid sick, but the sniffles and colds are pretty par for the course, and are just part of life. They build up immunities, and usually are not as miserable as they seem.
You might want to take clean wash cloths, wet them, wrap them in little rolls and freeze them. Ava loved these "toquitos" for her teeth. The highest temp I EVER tolerate without a ped visit is 102, but Ava never got a temp much. For the stuffies, I'm a fan of spraying the generic saline, suck out with the chubby Red Cross bulb, and saline again. Repeat q 2 hours. Sleep upright if possible.
Poor Noah! Jax and him could have had a little screaming fit party last night over the phone. Jax was up more last night than he has ever been and I really have no clue what the deal is, I am guessing ear infection but who knows and his appointment isn't until this afternoon.
Noah will be fine, even if it ends up being something more than just teething and a little cold!
Daycare is SO exhausting!
