Trouble TTC

Nervous...IUI tomorrow

Heard the IUI should be a breeze but I am nervous. The HSG was suppose to be a breeze too and it was bad.... and not so much for the procedure, but more for the outcome! EEEEK!

How was your IUI?  When do you get to test? How often do you have to go back to RE?

Re: Nervous...IUI tomorrow

  • My IUI's didnt hurt a bit - they are easier than a pap and are quick.

I start testing usually on day 12. One cycle I refrained.

You go back to the RE usually 14 days past IUI.

  • I've only had one and yes, it was a little bit painful.  Not as bad as the HSG, though.  I tested at 13 DPIUI and it was negative and my period started later that day.  I just started up my clomid again and I don't go back until CD 13 for a follicle check.

its about the same level of discomfort as a Pap smear but quicker, much easy than a the HSG, which sucked

  • Who told you that the HSG would be a breeze?? Yikes, it must have made it worse when you were expecting it to be no big deal and it was bad.  Most girls on here have mixed experiences with the HSG, so I was expecting the worst and it was bad at the end but at least I felt prepared for it. :(

The IUI is NOTHING like the HSG and I've never heard anyone say that they had a truly bad experience (as compared to the HSG where there are some bad stories).  It really is like a pap smear, except there may be some cramping during/afterwards.  I haven't heard many people talk about it being really painful.  Mine was fine, a little cramping but not much.  GL :)

  • I had some cramping after my IUIs from the catheter and the wash, but otherwise it was no sweat.  I tested with an HPT after two weeks, and after IUI#2, I had a beta a few days after AF.  Good luck!  I hope everything goes smoothly!

  • My IUIs are a breeze compared to my HSG. My first IUI I felt nothing. I little cramping afterwards but that?s it. My 2nd IUI I had a little more cramping during and after but still it was no were near as bad as my HSG. I normally try to wait until 12dpo to test. My RE will do b/w at 15dpo. Good luck!!

Heard the IUI should be a breeze but I am nervous. The HSG was suppose to be a breeze too and it was bad.... and not so much for the procedure, but more for the outcome! EEEEK! My HSG was bad, but the IUIs were not. They were more than a pap, but not much.

How was your IUI?  When do you get to test? My RE said 15 days past IUI we go in for a blood test, he said not to do a HPT (even though we didn't use a trigger), but I don't know if I will be able to wait. And if I wait for b/w I will get the news while I am at work, so I may just take a HPT at home the night before. How often do you have to go back to RE? We did back to back IUIs, but the only f/u is the b/w to test for pregnancy- and if not pregnant we go back on CD 2 again for another cycle.

  • The IUI was nothing other than the speculum, so no worse (and maybe even a little better than?) a pap. I didn't feel anything during or after the procedure.

I didn't have to go back afterwards. My RE doesn't do betas unless you have a +HPT which they tell you not to do until 17dpIUI (ha! like I'd wait 17 days to POAS!), and AF showed 12dpIUI, so I never tested. Just had baseline U/S for IUI#2 this morning, hoping for better results this time.

    Best of luck to you!

  • Oh my word - I've heard the HSG is much worse, especially if there is a blockage.

I just had my first IUI last Monday, and at worse, it was uncomfortable.  I consider myself to be a BIG baby when it comes to pain, so you should be fine!  It's about the same about an annual exam/pap smear.

Since my IUI last Monday, I went today for blood work and u/s, and again next Monday for my pregnancy test.

    GL!

  • I don't remember who told me the HSG was going to be easy but it got me all worried hearing about the IUI. Thanks guys! Me and the hubby are pretty damn excited!

  • I think the IUI feels like a pap, only quicker.  Slight cramping afterwards.  HSG was not much worse for me, only longer.  First IUI, I tested 12 dpo, 2nd, I tested 14dpo.  I don't see my Dr. again until the day 12 u/s for my next cycle.  Don't be nervous, it's over really quick!

  • What a beeotch waiting that long! We are overloaded with pregnancy tests at work (they send them for every study even though all my patients have gone through menopause) everyone saves them from their studies and gives them to me...man this is gonna be hard!

  • The only thing that hurt about the IUI was the speculum. It was pretty easy and fast. I stayed in the room resting longer than the actual procedure took. My 1st IUI was a BFN. I tested at 12 and 13dpIUI. Beta was done on 14dpIUI.

I have two ultrasounds prior to the actual IUI. Best of luck!!!
