switching to whole milk advice needed please

hi! DD is 1yr tomorrow so this weekend i started to try to switch off formula and onto whole milk. wellllllll she hates it. She's used to her formula bottles being warmed, so the cold milk--especially in the sippy---she wants nothing to do with it. But last night i put it in a cup of hot water while i got her dressed for bed time. and she chugged it down. So clearly its the cold issue but i hate ot open a can of worms by heating her cows milk too. I dotn want her getting used to warm milk only!

So help! please! how did you do it if your LO didnt like it at first?

thanks!

  • maybe try warming it for bottles only & trying cold milk for sippy's.  IDK..GL!

  • At first we heated DD whole milk up for the first two months, now she drinks it cold. I would just heat it up for 30 seconds and then start gradually heating it for less time, she will get so distracted that I'm sure she won't mind drinking it cold. Good luck.

  • i did half milk half formula and changed it gradually.

we continue to heat just his night bottle and at first would just take the chill off the daytime sippys( less than 10 seconds in water or microwave worked)

so now he drinks cold from sippy and warm for night bottle

  • I did what PP said, I gave him cold milk at meals in a sippy and warmed his bottles for him for about 3 months.  Now he doesn't get any bottles and will drink cold milk from a sippy during his normal "bottle time".

  • My DS was off warmed milk by 5 or 6 months.  He just grabbed the bottle out of my hands one time when I went to warm it and never looked back.

  • First we started doing half formula half milk, we would only heat the formula and add the milk. So it wasn't really warm, but warm enough that he would drink it. Then when it was all milk, we warmed it for 15 seconds, just enough to take the chill off. Now he drinks it cold with no problem.

  • we introduced milk super slow- an ounce at a time, a week at a time. and now she's on whole milk no problem. she chugs from a bottle, but doesn't drink much from a sippy cup- but that's to be expected i believe. they'll get used to it in time. if you do think it's the temperature, i'd do what PP said and warm it for 30 seconds this week, 20 seconds next week, etc etc until it's cold.

This exactly. DS has always taken his bottles right out of the fridge (phew!) and I was still nursing, but we gave him a little bit of formula too. We were mixing them together, gradually reducing the portion of formula until it was all milk. Now he can't get enough of it!

Also, one realization that helped me - it's not like formula becomes suddenly bad for them the day they turn 1 year old. So if it takes a few weeks after it's not that big a deal, they're still getting nutrition!
