Easy. We're used to it and if you dress appropriately you can enjoy a cold day outside. It's all I've ever known and I actually like the cold and snow. I don't take LO's outside for a walk in the stroller on days that cold but it could be done.
When we take them out we make sure they're wearing warm clothes, hats, bundled up with blankets and warm the van up before putting them in it. I'm pretty lucky b/c I live in SW Ontario where it's not really that cold compared to other places in the country. SW Ontario also has the nickname of "the Banana Belt" because it's warmer comparitively.

so is it ever so cold that you wouldn't go outside? Like what temperature would you be like, OMG Not going out there?
I think the temp hit in the single digits ONCE in recent years here in Atlanta and the city had a collective heart attack.
OP: think about it in terms of the opposite: the extreme heat the south faces. Growing up, it was not a big deal because I was used to it (as are you, I assume). But when we took LO down this summer, it was horrible! And, I didn't want to take LO out in it. Its just all about what you are used to

that's a good point...I guess I b!tch about the heat too, lol. I'm just a weather wuss. Being pregnant this past summer was miserable!!
I agree, I think I would prefer the cold to the crazy heat in the south. Although today, I would like some heat. It's minus 34 degrees Celsius today. I won't go anywhere today, I hope, but I don't mind the cold so much...I need to worry about little guy. I might have to pu in the bundleme.
J and I go out for walks any day that the temps are above freezing (even if it's just one degree above) provided it's clear and sunny. He loves it. I dress lightly and we come back when either I start to feel cold or his nose starts to turn red.

I don't think there's a specific temp that would deter me from going outside. Depends on the windchill I guess and how lazy I am that day. Hah. I mean if your breath is freezing then I'm not leaving the house, but it never gets that cold here. I'm just used to it. Like I said this is all I've ever known -- I'm used to the cold. As long as you're dressed appropriately it's not a big deal.
On the flip side of things our summers here are ridiculously hot and humid too. Just short lived. July and August the temps are usually between 25-30 Celsius with the Humidex sometimes getting up to 40C. That's high 70's to sometimes 90's Farenheit. This past summer was ridiculous -- August was mostly in the 100's F up here. Gross. We have fairly extreme temp differences.

wow I wouldn't have thought it would get that hot up there. The things you can learn before 9 am, lol...
Here on the East coast of Newfoundland, the temps are more moderate. It hardly ever goes above 20-25 degrees Celcius in the summer, but doesn't go more than 10 or so degrees below freezing in the winter. It's just rain, drizzle and fog all year...lol. We actually refer to it as RDF. In Western/Central NL, where DH is from, they have much hotter summers and colder winters.
In Winnipeg we had -34 with the wind chill yesterday, and crazy blowing snow. Those are the days you question living here ;-) We don't have a garage, so on days like that it's such an effort to get two kids dressed for the crazy weather, go start the car, take them out in the blustery snow, etc.... good times.
Umm.. it's actually been warmer/ less snowy here where I live than many/most states In fact, you have more snow in your siggy than we've probably seen in my town in the past 2 yrs combined ;p
We don't all live in igloos north of the 49th ya know...
This post makes me smile. I hate the cold but I'm used to it, so I love hearing people ask how the hell we do it lol. Dress accordingly! There isn't a set temperature that's a cut off for me to go outside. If I don't have to go anywhere, we don't. If she has an appointment, we drive. To go for a walk just for fun, I have to be comfortable, then she gets a little snow suit and blanket, or sometimes a Bundle Me.
I don't understand why Canadian Red Robins serve mint sauce with their cheese sticks. WTF, Canadians? Cheese sticks must be served with marinara sauce. Must.
Unable to even.

This! I've vaguely heard of Red Robins before, and didn't realize they were also in Canada. And I eat my cheese sticks in marinara! The only other option I've been given for cheese sticks in a restaurant is Ranch.
I think it's hilarious that the cold is "in Canada." It's more than freezing in Michigan (and we're only 15 minutes from the Canadian border).
lol well then my question applies to you too. I only limited it to Canada bc they were talking about it.
and I didn't realize y'all (Canadians) didn't have Target...that's more appalling to me than the weather!!
Good bye and good riddance to Zellers. Target is on its way! Yay! Now if it weren't so damn cold out there, I'd go for a ten minute walk to Tim Hortons. Mmmmmm Tim Hortons

I don't even consider -20 THAT cold. It's cold, but not bad enough to keep me inside. -40, THAT's cold!! Don't get many of those days here, but I went to university in Saskatoon and we would have a week or 2 of -40 every winter. When it gets down to -50, that's when they recommend you stay inside. At that temp your skin will freeze within 5 minutes. Even so, I've walked to school in that weather...you just gotta wear a lot of clothes, and wear waterproof mascara, cuz you're eyelashes get all frosty and then it melts when you get inside, and you look like a racoon! i also went to an outdoor football game on a -25 day...sitting still in the elements for that long, that was definitely the coldest I've ever been. I felt like I'd never be warm again.
There's also a difference between dry cold like we get here and the moist cold they get in Ontario/Quebec, etc. Moist cold gets down to your bones, I think it sucks way worse!!
I would love to take LO for more walks, but people in my neighbourhood don't shovel their freaking sidewalks!!!
Um, you know that not all of Canada is that cold, right?? People seem to think that once you cross the border it's freezing. Vancouver BC is actually very moderate in terms of climate -- doesn't get that cold and has little snow in the winter, doesn't get too hot/humid in the summer. We have MUCH colder winters in CT than in BC (I'm originally from BC and all of my siblings and mom live there). Also, my dad lives in Ontario, and the winters are comparable to ours in CT, and the summers are often hotter!
Re: I don't understand, Canadians.
its not just canada. It was minus 20 here this weekend.
You get used to it. I grew up in FL. When I first moved, I thought I was going to die. But now its not that big of a deal.

You can always put on more clothes when it's cold...compared to when it's hot!
Exactly! There's only so much you can take off!
Our first family photo!

As a PP said, it's not always cold, and our cold is the same as you being used to blistering hot days. We'd lose our minds having to suddenly confront that. This Summer, when I was living in Ottawa and we broke heat records every week in August. Being pregnant in +40 (104 F) https://ottawa.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100705/OTT_Heat_Warning_100705/20100705/?hub=OttawaHome is not easy either!
Here's my question:
How do they survive without Target?!?!?

Target just bought a bunch of Zellers stores, so they are on their way!
They compensate with Tim Horton's (which I LOVE).
