Baby Carriers - Beco vs Ergo

Any opinions on one or the other, or both?

Also,  the Beco's come in fun patterns/colors. Would you go with just a plain black one so DH can wear it too...or go with a fun pattern and tell him to suck it up when and if he does wear it?

Re: Baby Carriers - Beco vs Ergo

  • I have both an Ergo Sport and a Beco Gemini.  I've used the Beco more than the Ergo (truthfully I've only used the Ergo once), but I love love love the Beco.

It's way easier to get on than the Ergo (IMO), especially if you are by yourself and/or have to get LO one quickly.  For front carries, the Beco can have the straps crossed which is super supportive and comfy.  Also, baby can face out in the Beco.

One other plus about the Gemini is that you can use it with a newborn without an insert.  The base is adjustable to accomodate a younger baby's shorter legs.

I will say, I bought a black Beco to be neutral and I was wishing I didn't.  It picks up lint and fuzz like no other.  The Gemini comes in a gender neutral khaki print one that might work for both of you.

     HTH!

  • I heard the beco is better if you are smaller framed.

  • Thanks ladies.  I think I'm leaning towards the Beco. A friend had one and loved it.  And now the decision between the butterfly or the gemini.  I guess it is nice that the gemini allows you to carry many different ways.  Do you find that you carry on the front more than the back?  It seems like the Butterfly is easier if you want to carry on the back...but then I like the fact that the Gemini can carry forward facing. I mean, who the heck knows what this baby is going to like?!

  • We have a Beco Butterfly that is an old pattern (Joey). Because we have a boy, I wanted something that would be gender neutral. DH actually uses the Beco more than I do and he loves it! I'm really glad I got a pattern- I tend to go with black for everything since that's my style, but once in a while patterns are fun too. :)

  • We bought the Beco Gemini because I wanted it mostly for the front carry :) I bought the black with a pattern and I am excited to use it.  I am tiny so the Beco fit me better than the Ergo did.
  • I have a beco butterfly in lenka & I LOVE it.  DH has no issue carrying it due to the pattern.  I chose the beco over the ergo b/c of the ease of the back carry, better fit, lighter weight infant insert (July baby in Houston would have melted in the ergo insert!) and the pretty factor.

  • I bought a plain black Beco Gemini. Love it and DH will actually wear it b/c it's plain black and not "girly". No experience with the Ergo here though.

  • I tried the Ergo and Beco at the store and the Beco was easier to get on and off, and now that DD is here it is super simple! You don't need an insert for newborns. We got the Gemini in the Paige print, its black for DH but has a print on it for me! =) and DD loves being carried in it!

  • Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the input.

Now I need to decide between the Gemini and the Butterfly.

  • I'm getting the Gemini in brown.  I wanted the Paige print but DH said even that was too girly.  I love the options you get with the Gemini and I've heard it is easier to get on than the Ergo, plus you don't need an infant insert--one less thing to deal with.  I don't know much about the Butterfly, but I see myself carrying in the front much more than the back anyway.
