Severly chapped skin between fat rolls

DD has a roll under her chin on her neck and it is soo chapped from formula running down. I have tried lotion, I wash it daily and make sure it dries all the way, I am constantly patting it and not rubbing it because I don't want to make it worse and sore. Any suggestions what to put on it?

  • Eucerin Aquaphor Healing Ointment is amazing. The pedi usually has samples. Now that I started using it I've noticed how highly it's recommended. I last read in Baby 411 the pedi say it's her face for diaper rashes. My sister's pedi recommended it for her son's eczema. I dabbed it on a dry patch above DS's eyebrow this morning and I'm looking at him now- it's gone! That dry patch had been there for a few days and I hadn't done anything.
  • Eucerin Aquaphor is great and also, you might try a burp rag or bib to prevent the formula running down her neck more. Thats what I do. And another thing to try is medicated chapstick.

This, this. My sister is a resident in a pediatrics ward, and she endorses this product greatly. It worked wonders for my DD's eczema.

  • Ointment like Aquaphor, A&D, even vaseline will help. Put a thin coat after washing & drying. It works. I used to have to do it for DD1's neck rolls.

  • Aquaphor!  We keep a giant tub of it on hand at all times.  It works for everything.

  • This may be a dumb question, but are you putting a bib on your baby before feeding her? I think the best treatment can sometimes just be prevention. DD sometimes leaks some formula out the side of her mouth while eating, or when she spits-up, but the bib is there to catch all of that before it slides into the crease under her neck.

  • a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream 2x a day only when necessary works wonders for my daughter. She gets red chapped skin often on her neck, leg rolls, even arm rolls.

  • I'm a pediatric dermatology PA at a children's hospital...it's called "Intertrigo". It's from the skin folds getting moist (due to milk and from lack of air circulating) and rubbing together. I agree with Aquaphor. Also, if it's stinky and creamy, it's a little bit of yeast. Mix in OTC Lotrimin (clotrimazole) cream with the Aquaphor and apply 3x day. Keep the area super dry!
