DS has had a runny nose the past few days. No fever. Playing normally... just an annoying faucet (err, nose). Anyway, last night he had a cough that didn't sound good. Not quite barky, but enough for dh and I to raise our eyebrow.
We've been running the humidifier since he started in daycare. Last night, we gave him some tylenol because of the cough/runny nose. We also put on some babyrub, which seemed to help him.
Anyway... at what point do you call the pedi? At this point, I don't think it warrants a call, but it has been several days (5?) since his nose started running.
Oh, and this is new territory for us. Normally a runny nose lasts no more than 2-3 days.
Re: talk to me about runny noses...
Caroline has been perpetually sick since November. Sinus infection, strep throat, two ear infections and a nose that will not stop running. I think you can expect him to start picking up germs from the petri dish that is daycare. It blows, but that's just the way it is with daycare/school.
I wouldn't call the doctor unless the cough and congestion lasts a week. Our doctor will not give antibiotics unless a cold has lasted ten days and has not subsided.
I agree with everyone else, I wouldn't call unless he develops other symptoms that warrant attention (like a fever, nasty cough that lasts more than a few days, etc., or the mucus from his nose turns a nasty green color). Tyler's nose is running all the time now since Justin brings home germs from school constantly.
I hope he feels better though!
