Chronic congestion and runny nose ?

My DS seems to always be congested and have a runny nose. I know we are in the sick season but it just seems too much. He recently got tubes a couple days ago. I'm hoping this will help. Now I'm wondering should he have gotten his adenoids removed?? I told his ENT but he didn't seem too concerned about the congestion. I run a humidifier every time he naps and sleeps in his room. Anyone ever deal with this? What were you told. or what worked? TIA : )

  • Ask your pedi about allergy meds. If Emmie is snotty for longer than a few days our pedi said we can give her zyrtec for allergies. I'd ask again!

  • I was also going to ask if it could be an allergy. I'd ask the Pedi about that.
  • my dd has her adenoids removed last week for chronic congestion (never needed ear tubes).  after almost a week she has less of a runny nose and she still isn't healed yet.  If adenoids weren't a problem we were going to head to the allergist next though.
  • My DS had his adenoids removed two weeks ago after months of chronic sinus infections.  The first week post surgery he seemed MUCH better, was breathing through his nose, sleeping better, etc.  This past week he has been right back to his runny, stuffy nose and having a hard time sleeping at night.  His post op paperwork says this is normal for the first two weeks... but there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.  I'm not convinced the surgery was worth it...

  • My son has had a cough and runny nose since September. At the end of September, he had to get tubes after 3 antibiotics (including shots of it) did not clear his ear infections up. After that, no more ear infections but the cough and congestion continued. We saw an allergy and asthma specialist. My LO now takes a nightly nebulizer treatment to prevent asthma. That did nothing. 2 weeks ago, he was diagnosed with another sinus infection. Now this past weekend, he has bronchitis, RSV and sinus infection (antibiotic did nothing). However, the doctor suggested he may have chronic sinus infections, which means he must be treated with an antibiotic for 21 days. This may have been our problem because he would do the 10 days on antibiotics and then be slightly ok for a couple days and then back to being sick.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I would check with the doctor to see if he has a sinus infection. If it doesn't go away after treatment, then immediately call the doctor to see if your LO might have a chronic sinus infection.
