I had an appt this morning to decide what to do about my endo pain (bless the RE for making Sunday appointments - I'm very glad he is a workaholic). I asked about being a gestational carrier and he said I was a near perfect candidate - he said it wasn't so much the physical stuff (previous c/s, mild MTHFR) as the psychological stuff - he said he thought I would be doing it for the right reasons and that I was smart and educated and could think it through weighing all of the factors. (thanks doc)
Not only was he on board - he has a couple at his office in mind. EEK! we are actually thinking about it!!
It sounds like such a great thing and it is.. but it is very scary too. DH is on board, but now we are in the part of the discussion where all the scary stuff comes up...
Here are our pro's (in order of how I value them - best at top):
Here are our con's:
I will be doing more research and talking to a woman I know he has done it 4 times, but help me think this through, if you don't mind...
I would really welcome your thoughts.
Re: Well the RE didn't think I was crazy... GC in my future?
It's so funny, DH and I were just talking about this this morning (doing it in a year or two). My number one pro is that it will postpone a hysterectomy for a while. I have endo pain almost every day and pregnancy does help with it. My big thing is that I went into pre term labor with the twins and I don't know if that disqualifies me. Also, I probably wouldn't want to carry twins because of the risk of it happening again, which would lessen the families chance of the pregnancy taking.
Are we FB friends, I'd like to talk to you about it more in depth sometime.
Yes, we are FB friends (just messaged you)
I should have added the twin pg worry to my list too...
I think that's great that it appears like a real possibility. I would certainly ask the woman what she experienced that she DIDN'T anticipate she would. What was the hardest part/the easiest part? Would she do it again, and under what conditions? Clearly she's done it 4 times, but did anything change from the first to the second/etc. and what changed for her.
Good luck!
