Shopping for new furniture... I want leather, traditional brown, typical leather couch. What type of coffee table? Our wall unit is stained almost an ebony color. So would it look stupid to get a brown stained table?
It depends on the rest of your room, wall color etc but I would probably mix it up more with your coffee table to something lighter but thats JMO and I'm not a professional designer by any stretch :-)
That's what I'm wondering would it look strange with two different color woods in the same room? The table I found is dark but not black so I think it would coordinate and look nice vs some blonde wood coffee table.
I don't think it would look stupid. Our bedroom has a mix of wood types/colors and it works well (dark blue carpet, a light mocha paint color, and wood trim).
ETA: I think that you would want to go darker (like the couch) since it would be a central piece in the room.
I don't think it would look stupid with mixing up woods. We just bought all new living room furniture from Ethan Allen & had one of their designers help us & we have different woods. GL

If your couch and wall unit are darker brown, I would try to match that with the coffee table. I think it would look weird to go too much lighter for that piece.
If you're concerned about the room being too dark, maybe get a glass table? Or you could go lighter with the curtains, rugs, and wall color.

I think the room will handle the dark because we've got an open floor plan with three large white structural columns and the fire place is a gray brick with a white mantal. I was just worried the woods would clash if the coffee table wasn't black. I think the color I've picked out will be fine and that a black table with the wall unit would be too matchy matchy.
I've been thinking about new living room furniture too and think I'll go with an ottoman/coffee table thing when we do go for it. I like that it's soft egdes & corners are not a danger to my 2 year old who likes to spin around, get dizzy and fall down, and when our next little one starts walking, it'll be friendly to her as well. I'm thinking something like this: https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Richmond-Espresso-Bonded-Leather-Storage-Ottoman/5137250/product.html
Solves the wood problem if you can get it to match the brown of your new couch!
